Klsewbcre in this issue will ho found an article by Congressman Wyatt Aikou iu regard to tho rural mail systom. The postal authorities at Washington, owing to an apparent lack of support of the .rural freo dolivory systom in snmo sec tions, are considering tho advisability of .curtailing or discontinuing tho servico at sonic points whore the mail matter han? .lledis not doomed sufficient to justify tho system ns at present operated. Mr. Aiken's statement, is clear and to ? tho point, and it seems scarcely neces sary that wo should add anything to what he has said. Certainly no ono who is enjoying the benefits of tho rural servico at present wishes to he deprived of them. There aro, however, many who have not j availed themselves of the conveniences ol this system. These wo urge to sup port it. The oosl of boxes is small, in finitely small, when the convenience of tho system ?R considered. Lot no ono stand in the way of a continuance of tho rural mail servico by withholding his patronage. It too frequently happens .chat wo fail ..> fully appreciate such 'things until, by our lack of interest or support, wo are deprived of them. Lot every resident of the rural districts .read carefully Congressman Aiken's let ter. Surely when we realize tho full .meaning of the withdrawal of this sys ;tem from our midst we will each do our (Utmost not only to maintain it, but to (improve, increase and make it moro beneficial. If you livo near a rural route and aro not availing yourself of its convenience, . do so at once; or if you can induce some | neighbor, who has neglected '.ho systom, to support it, do that. Hy all means let no routes in Oconeo ho discontinued. They have done much to build up tho .country and put it in close touch with tho outside world. The rural districts to day enjoy greater advantages in mail service than many towns and villages of | a few years ago. lt is hut just and pro per that they should do so. Hut there must ho a show of appreciation by a liberal support of tho people on tho va rious routes. Don't neglect the system that has dono onie than any un? other thing to help ?ie farmer and put him in close daily ttOUOh with the world at largo. HERE. THERE ANO YONDER. No, Clerk of Court Burns is neither a Oircuit nor a Supreme Court Judge, hut -well, ho 8oems to he IT all right. "And the next day it snowed." "We told yon so." And tho dispensary has gone, too. ? ? . Apropos of nothing in particular and everything in general, Walhalla ought to i.i vc a now and commodious passenger | . lepot. . For the information of the general i.?.lillie wo aro glad to noto that all trains . ?n tho Hluo Itidgo Railway aro now ?promptly bulletined at the Walhalla .depot. This in conformity with tho law making it a misdemeanor not to do so. No danger now of bein? run over by fast trains if you look at tho bulletin hoard, ;.T id not down the track, to see if tho train is on time. We suspect that Congressman Nick ?ODgworth, just at this tune, also would bo gratified for a suit of Ooonee joau8.~ 'Sews and Courier. wouldn't it bo more appropriate,"just : tt this time," to send hun a bag of cat . On appeal to dre Supreme Court the Circuit Court was iHtistained, and the Clerk's salary, or compensation, remains as iii thu past FIFTEEN MILLS ! That Will bo the Tax Levy In Ooonce for Hilt Tear, Say? Mr. Sheldon. limine of Representatives, Columbia, January 20.-Editors Keowee Courier: The weather has been an warm aa May the most of the time siuoe we came to Columbia-oloudy most of the time, and but very little rain ; clear and ooo! yes terday, aud to day reminds one of our pure mountain olimate. Wo have had some hard fights lu our end of the house the past two weeks and let one or two dangerous bills get by. The ono granting police officers the privilege to run a man three miles be yond the corporate limits of a town in order to catch bim, will bo recommitted this morning in order to try to indefi nitely postpone tho samo. Josh Ashley says it will never do to let this bill go by; that the polioe will have more authority than tho sheriffs or Suprome Judges on the bench-they have to stop when they get to the county aud State lines. The ten-hour bill is made a special order to come up to-morrow immedi ately after third reading bills. Mr. Morgan's bill to abolish the State dispensary and in favor of local option, county dispensarios or prohibition, seems to bo the ono gonerally accepted by tho majority in our end of tho house, in othor words it, glvet oach couuty the privilogo of voting for what they want. It is tho bill I expect to support, pro vided wo can get it amended with suffi cient restrictions thrown around it to enforce the law. Tho bill to prohibit log carts or two wheeled wagons from traveling tho pub lic highways, with a horn or foot on the tontine, was killed after a hard fight. Cur delegation aro allin good health and generally at their post of duty. Mr. Morgan's dispensary bill will como up to-night immediately after third read ing hills and will continue from day to day until disposed of. I will say in conclusion, tor tho benefit of tho taxpayers of Ooonee county, that wo have fixed tho tax of our county at fourteen mills. Tho County Commis sioners will add one mill, making a total of fifteen mills. This will give the Su pervisor four-fifths of a mill moro than ho had last year, as tho State tax has been reduced one-half mill. I think that, with tho increased assessment, will ho sufficient to run our county. 1 will Hay, in behalf of Mr. Hobson and tho County Commissioners, that at tho last meeting of the hoard that they found that they wero mistaken about tho county being short si x thousand dollars last year and have withdrawn tho re quest for two mills to pay tho past in debtedness.
