The greatest excitement now pre vails and the volunteer rescuers are heroically working in the hope of saving many who arc known to havo been carried down hy the rushing water. The colored settlement in tho vicinity of the reservoir was en tirely wrecked, and negroes are working diligently with the whites iii search for the missing. The cause bf the disaster was the overflow of tho reservoir and a thorough investi gation will bc made in order to ascer tain if the negligence of any of the employees of the pump station were responsible for it. The reservoir burst without warning and victims were drowned while asleep in their beds. One couple, a negro man and his wife, Heated on their bcd 500 yards. Neither one was injured. D. h.
