On the first page in this issue appears the prospectus of tho Westminster In vestment Savings aud Trust Company. This is a now enterprise and it will doubtless bo a success. It is not tho purpose of this compauy to do a bank ing businoss as that business is generally kuown. It is, howevor, tho purposo of tho company to assist in building up tho town and community in which it is located, and, in a gonoral way, the wholo County of Oconoo. It is intended by this combination to bring togothor a supply of monoy with which to aid any legitimate ontorpriso that may bo started, and by its influonco and oapital to oncourago and promoto manufacturing ontorprisos. Kvory pro gressive public-spirited citizen recog nizes that if our couuty is to koop paco with tho spirit of progress, so manifest in tho Piedmont section, wo must bo up and doing. It is natural torcjoioo in the progress which has boon made in thin county within tho past fow years, still wo cannot, and we must not stop. So far | wo havo mado a good boginning, but wo be'lovo it is only a beginning, and tho future is pregnant with groat things, if wo will but put forth our hands and soizo the opportunities that offer. With this ond in viow tho abovo ontorpriBO has boon inaugurated, and it will surely ro coivo a hearty wolcomo by all tho poople of our county. Among other things tho promotora of this ontorpriao hopo to assist in tho do volopmont of somo of tho splendid water powers in our county, to buy largo I tracts of uncultivated lands, oloar a portion of tho lands, build comfortablo houses and then sell tho small farms on easy terms to young mou just Btarting iu lifo. Tho company will also bo proparod to mako loans at roasonablo ratos on farm property. The banks cannot well bandlo this class of loans, and, conse quently, farmers of ton lia ve need of a placo at which Buch loans can bo carried. Ouo result is that moro or less land is always for salo, thus depreciating prices and keeping our lands far below tho pre vailing prico of lands in other counties. Tho company also intends to oncourago poach cult ure. This industry, which is doing so much for other scctious, can be mado to do much for ours. Those aro somo of tho things which tho now company proposos to help to do. Tho timo has arrived for such an un - dortaking, and tho seizing of tho oppor tunity is duo to tho foresight of Mr. W. P. Anderson, who is tho loading spirit in organizing tho company. In this con nection it may be woll to rotor to his re markable success as a financier during tho past eight years. On Septorabor 1st, 1801, ho organized Tho Peden ft Anderson Banking Com pauy. During these eight years tho bank has paid seventy-eight per cont iu dividends, and tho stock to day is quoted at sixty per cent abovo par. In August, 1898, Mr. Anderson took chargo of tho Southern Shuttle and Bob bin Company. At that timo tho stock was offered at from twenty to fifty cents on tho dollar, and yet there was no ono to buy. Mr. Anderson robuilt tho plant and on Fobruary 1st, 1OO0, reorganized tho company and soon brought tho stock up to par. On August 1st, 1000, six months aftor tho reorganization, tho company paid a semi-annual dividend of flvo per cent and continued to pay fivo por cont semi-annual dividends during tho timo that it was undor his manage ment. On January 20, 1902, ho sold tho plnut and received for ouch stockholder tho uniform prico of $126.00 per share. At that time tho stockholders had re ceived thrco dividends of fivo per cont | each, which, added to tho above prico, mado tho investment yiold thom fl lo.no for each $100.00 investod two years be foro. In other words, each stockholder | received all tho monoy ho had put in plus twenty por cont intorost por annum. In both of thesoenterprises Mr. Ander son was caroful to look aftor tho interest of his Btockholdors, as a simple, recital of tho facts fully show. Mr. Anderson is only 42 years of ago. By careful Btudy and ri po oxperionco lio is eminently titted for tho management of Blich an enterprises" the OUO which he. tn now organizing. Ho isoapablo, puhlic spirited and enterprising aftor tho vory best model. Wo fool suro that his now ontorpriso will moot wii.li tho hoarty ap proval and support of the representativo | citizens of Oconoo county. Ho ?B sup plying a long felt want and SUCCOSB will fluroly crown his efforts. Brain Food Nonsense. Another ridiculous food fad has boon branded hy tho most compotont authori ties. Thoy have dispelled tho Billy notion that ono kind of food ia needed for brain, anothor for muscles and still anothor for bones. A Corroot diet will not only nour ish a parti?? lar part of tho body, hut it will sustain every othor part. Yot, how ovor gjod your food may bo, its nutri ment is destroyed hy indigestion or dys pepsia. You must proparo for their ap pr .lance or provont their coming by 'biking regular doses of Groon's August Flowor, tho favorito medicino of tho healthy millions. A fow doses aids diges tion, stimulates tho liver to healthy action, purifies tho blood and makes you fool buoyant and vigorous. You can get rbis roliablo remedy at J. II.
