The sad newe reached Walhalla early tala morning that Mr. Capers C. Burton, eldest son of Mr. and Mr*. C. A. Burton, died at St. Vincent's Hospita!, Birming ham, Ala., Tuesday morning, from the effects of serious injuries received last Thursday lc a mine explosion at Bloss burg, Ala. The accident was due to the premature explosion *of a dyuamite blast, and a number of men employed In the mine were injured. Mr. Burtou was an excellent young man, only about twenty-two years of age, and his un timely death is a source of much sorrow to his many friends in Walhalla and vicinity. Hopes were entertained for his recovery, and on Monday evening word was received here that bis physicians were confident an operation porformod to relieve a fracture of the skull would be sucoeesful and render his recovery, almost sure. But the end was near and the final summons ame but a short while after the operation was performed. In his death a young man of worth bas boon taken away, and' bis paronts and family have tho sympathy of the entire com munity in their sorrow. Tho remains will be brought to Walhalla this evening, and the funeral services will be conducted to-morrow. The burial service will be at the Baptist cemetery about ll o'clock a. m. Ho was born, reared and educated at Fort Motto, in this Stato. flo roccivod his medical diploma from tho State University, at Columbia, iu 1870 or '72. After his graduation ho practiced his profession in Georgia a short time, and thon located in Walhalla. It was in Walhalla whore ho achiovod unusual success in the most laborious and oxacting of professions. About this timo ho was happily married to Miss Ida Harrison, daughter of Gon. J. W. Harrison, ono of tho most popu lar and prominent men in Andorson county ; a llrst-rato representativo of that best, but almost extinct, typo of man tho Southern gentleman. Mrs. Darby and two sons, James H. and Jack, sur vive him. Many monibors of tho pro fossion in this county know Dr. Darby personally and bad learnod to appreci ate bis many virtuos as a man, and to valuo highly bis learning and ability asa physician. It is peculiarly true that all medical knowledge is Ibo aggrogato of medical oxporienco.
