Brown, of Bolton, special agent and oxaminor of the rural free delivory service, is spending a part of this week in Walhalla laying out the High Palls, Poplar Springs and Walhalla (No. 1) rural delivery routes. Both tho High Falls ami Poplar Springs routes will be supplied from tho West Union post office and Routo No. 1 from tho Walhalla post office. On Tuesday an ex amination for tho W..Huilla routo was hold, and several applicants wero on hand. Tho examination for tho West Union routes will bo held this afternoon. lt is expected those routes will bo put in full operation during July or August. S, . A . NEW . S Death of Col. W. E. Welborn. - The G roon ville News, May 10: Adam G. Wolborn, of this oity, yesterday morning received news of the death of his father, Col. W. E. Wolborn, wbioh occurred about three o'clock Thursday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. W. MoWhorter, about two miles east of Pickens Court House. The deceased was a native of Ander son county and was reared near Pel ser. On December 28th, 1867, he moved to Piokens and lived there until November, 1881, when he moved to hi? late home in Oconee county on Tugaloo river. Ho was born July 8, 1817, and therefore lacked two months of being 86 years old. Mr. Wolborn was opposed to secession and advocated his belief before too breaking out of the war. He was op posed to fighting the North with arms, but, favored remaining in the Union ana fighting the North on industrial grounds by building up her manufactories and natural resources. Howover, when seces sion went into effect and the war bogan Mr. Welborn was one of the first to vol unteer his services as a soldier. He served in the Confoderato army for four year?, during which time he held the positions of adjutant, oolonel and major respectively. He also took an activo part in the militia beforo and after the war and was well posted on military tac tios. After reviewing Col. Welborn's troops on one oooasion, Gov. Allston is quoted as saying, "Col. Welboru is the best oolonel in the State." Mr. Wel born was one of the most prominent farmers of Oconee county. During the recent years of his life, however, he snout most of bis timo In visiting his children. He leaves fivo daughters and five sons who are as follows: Mrs. Striokland and Mrs. Blrod, of Pelzer; Mrs. Ferguson, of Texas; Mrs. Hughes, Martin J. Wolborn, Thomas Welborn, Mrs. W. W.
