Nowry, July 10.-Seeing in your wor thy papor nothing from our industrial town (Nowry) wo will attempt to givo your many roadors a fow thoughts and items from down koro On tho cool rivor's brink, Where mon work and think. First, tho company is having tho stroots and houses of tho villngo put in first rato condition, which, when complotod, will truly make Nowry a modol mill town. Mr. Campboll Courtenay has tho su pervision of working all tho public roads in this school district, and ho has wisely adopted tho plan of widening tho roads to about 10 or 20 foot, and instead of putting wooden bridges across tho small branches ho is putting rock culvorts, which will bo thoro for all timo to como, and thus save tho cost of replacing Wood on bridgoB. Hov. C. Wardlaw, of Seneca, with tho assistance of Hov. D. W. lliott, of tho samo placo, has been carrying on a sorics of meetings hero for several even ings. May tho Lord crown thoir earnest offorts with much lasting good for tho causo of religion and tho upbuilding of tho church at Nowry. Wo had a glorious Ith of July. Your scribe, with bia better half and little o?ros and Mr. W. P. Childless, in a car riego furnished by our stableman, Mr. J. T. Oronshaw, carly on that morning started for a trip to West Union, Wal halla, Westminster and return by way of Richland and Seneca. So tho route wo selected was by Hon. C. lt. 1). Linus's mill, nt which placo wo arrived about 10 a. m., and found somo signs of progress in tho way of a nico now cottago going up-wo supposo as a rcsidonco for his miller. Tho next point of interest was Wost Union, where wo stopped for somo time under tho cool shade of somo of her beautiful and spreading trees, and thoro mot our old friend, J. Robert McMahan, whom wo were glad to seo and to know was doing well. Wo then started for Walhalla and ar rived thoro about noon and woro sur prised to find tho rapid progres that had boen made in tho way of good and mag nificent brick buildings and tho not work of telephone wires. Wo also noticed that Walhalla had not forgotten to re mombor he uoblo Gorman founders, and boneo tho beautiful monument, wo noticed near tho post ellice, with narnos carved on it that will never bo forgotten by tho pooplo of our county seat. So we then passed on for our next point to stop, which was at Mr. Wilbprn Alexander's, whero wo, under a large spreading oak near his house, took din ner, and had thc pleasure of meeting Mr. Alexander and receiving at his hands somo acts of kindness and a short his tory of his grand-father's carly settle ment thoro on Con nor OSS S2 years ago. This hoing our first visit to this part of tho county wo were favorably impressed with Dr. Kahnestock's, Mrs. Huusiugor's and Mr. Alexander's places, as woll as others. After passing these places wo arrive at Westminster about5 p. nt, Wo found a nico littlo city, with ono of tho nicest cotton mills and cotton mill towns in tho State. We failed to meet Presidont W. ?, Choswell, and heneo lost tho idea sure of going through tho mill, but from what wo could seo in and out it is a model mill and kept as neat, and clean as is possible. From this point wo wended our way homeward, passing through the beauti ful town of Heneen and arriving at Newry after tho sun had gone down beyond tho western hills and tho silvery stars began to como forth in tho hi ii o vaults of heaven, thus ending another glorious fourth of July, which we hopo tho states manship of Ibis country will perpetuate and justify tho glorification of that day down to tho remotest ages of tho world's history and continuo this republic, as tho Hon. John L. McLnurin, in his Spar tanblirg speech, on July Uh, so truth fully said: "That it was tho greatest go vorn ment the world over saw, and was destined in tho future to affect the world's politics and commerce more than ever." Now, with the logic of that speech, and every portion of it laden with truth, morality, religion, progress, enterprise, patriotism and wisdom, who can doubt tho sincerity and honesty of John L. McLaitrin'i Standing, as wo viow him, upon tho highest mountain of American patriotism, progression and enterprise, with dee]) down in his heart tho best interest, of bis country-espe cially that of tho South and his native StatO-looking behind him at the glori ous achievements of his country, and in front of bim its colossal possibilities, wo aro compelled to endorse Senator McLaurin's views and Senator Tillman's "Commercial Democracy," for it is com merce we want. .So lol us reason to got her and accept what is to our best interest, regardless of politics and sec tional prejudice.
