L, Mann, at tho Baptist church last Friday evening, was listened to by a largo and attentive aiulionco. Prof. Mann is an easy ; speaker, clear in his points, and showed by his earnestness mid force deep con viction and profound thought. Ono of his opening statements, "Them is no such thing as Christian education," ; doubt less disturbed some nt first, but as ho lcd his audience furthor bis point was clem-. Education, ho said, is a condition attained when ono has gained a full knowledge of all its parts-science, art, literature, religion, business. A lawyer may become master of everything neces sary to a brilliant carcor as a loarnod and oloquout advooato and logical reasoner, may ho thoroughly conversant with all other branches of learning, but lacking in art; therefore ho cannot bo termed an educated man because art, which is a part necessary to a complote ed neat ion, has boon neglected. Ho has received legal, .scientific, literary and business training, but not education. Ho with religion-it is but a part, and ono cannot have- a partial education; it must bo completo. Thurn is such a thing as Christian training, but no such thing as Christian education. Ho dwolt at length on tho lax methods used in tho training of children in tho Sunday school and tho general lack of knowledge on tho part of those who teach. His remarks woro well received, and those who hoard him wore highly pleased. Prof. Mann was to locturo next Friday night, but will bo unable to keep tho appointment.
