Stribling, Jr., last week, and we were pleased to note so lunch evidence of tho faith ful performance of his duty as teach er. Space seemed very much in demand and this state of affairs will not get any better until our new building is completed. Wo wish Mr. Poster much success in bis new line of business, but we long to see the day when the resources of our glorious country will he in such a stale of development as to give em ployment to all our young men, and induce all those from a distance, who marry our young ladies, lo settle berti. ll. DKAK COU KI KU: The quarterly Conference for Seneca ami Fairview Churches met at thc latter church last Saturday and was presided over by Presiding Fide!- Dickson. Messrs. V. H. Swann and Jas. H. Daniel were licensed to preach. ll is un derstood that Mr. Daniel will ?tun tho Conference and take a regular course, while Mr. Swann will be a local preacher. There is considerable complaint of rust in cotton, bul it is thought hy some that the rains will stop this trouble. We are having nice rains now and nearly every section is being visited with them. Wo hear of a good many cases of jaundice about here, but it doesn't conline any lo the bed. Miss Zenith Hombree, an aged maiden lady living near bete, died last Sunday. She was thought to bo near ninety years old ami died of old age. She was Inn.eil yesterday at I Jet urn church. There were no preaching in any of tho white churches in town last Sunday morning. Two were opened at night. Our postmaster, A. L. Hunt, is the happy man now. He was mar ried last Sunday afternoon to .Miss huey Lum pk i n, second daughter of Mr. Thomas Lumpkiu. Noach, on thc 17th day of July, 1889, hoed corn in one-half day as follows: Potboil hoed 1,952 yards; Poach, 1,180 yards. The corn had not been hoed in one month. It seems thal thc boys of Pulaski have gotten up a race. Some of the young ladies had better look sharp. Om* school at Damascus opened on the -J-Jd instant. L. I). Potboil is the lonelier. Henry Arve and F. D. Hotbed sang af Laurel Springs Church on last Sunday morning. In Long Creek section, on the night of the 17th instant, Mrs. Nar cissus ilohucs's grist and saW-mills were washed away on Long Creek, which were a great loss to her and tho public af large.
