Tho Attorney General reports that Mr. DAVIS is lin dor tho control of tho United States Courts, and that the Executive can do noth ing further to bring on the trial. Mr. DAVIS must, therefore, bide the time of Chief Jus- j Court Thc Court of Sessions, for Diekens District, convened at this placo un Monday last, His Honor Judgo MUNRO,presiding. His Honor despatches business- in a quiet, pleasant man ner, and much to the satisfaction of those pres ent generally. Monday and Tuesday were occupied hy un important matters, save that (d' a rule against the Clerk for not docketing the civil eases. Col. NORTON insisted that thc rule should bc made absolute, and that tho recent law bf thc Legislature on this subject was unconstitu tional. Gen. HASKELL spoke lo the same point. Gen. MCGOWAN defended the action of the Clerk. Judgo MlJNRO discharged the rule. The case will go to the Court of Errors. On Wednesday morning, thc ease of tho State against Looi'Kll and three of tho DUR HAMS, fur thc murder of Col. MILLER, of N. C., was commenced. Tho State consumed tho day hearing evidence for the prosecution. Thursday was spent in like manner for thc prisoners. The ease is still undisposed of us wo go to press. All thc capital eases cannot, for want of time, bc disposed of this week. We presume nn extra Court will bo ordered to clear tho Sessions docket. Hx-Cov. PERRY, Cen. MCGOWAN, Gen. HARRISON, Gen. EASLKY, and Gen. IIAS KKLL, are present from neighboring Districts. Tho weather has been fine, the crowd of j persons present largo, and their demeanor better than wc have over before witnessed. Statute of Limitations. Col. F. F. WARLEY, member of the Legis lature from Darlington, in a speech on salcday, declared, upon thc best authority, that tho ma jority of thc Judges of tho State aro satisfied that tho Statute of Limitations was effectually bar?d during tho continuance of tho Stay Law, and there was no violation of the Consti tution thereby. This will relieve tho minds of our people from much anxiety, says the " Southerner," and WO moy add that many persons will divest themselves of this delusive hopo to avoid thc settlement of their just in debtedness. Tho Political Aspect Thc elections in tho States of Pennsylvania, Ohio, lndiaun, nod Iowa, havo gono in favor of tho Radic?is. Tho Radical majorities in these States are loss than at thc last Presiden tial election, though they have gained a few members of Congress. Practically, thc people of the North have endorsed the legislation of the present Con gress. This is a serious aspect of the case, and should not bc lost sight of in the present state of afluir?. The result of these elections has depressed thc spirits of our peoplo to an unwarranted degree. Confiscation and absolute destruction are thc bitter pills now being swallowed vol untarily. Our opinion is, that there is no well-founded reason for this depression There will uot be general confiscation, and the trem bling anticipation pervading tho public mind is anything but creditable to our people.
