-??? ' -??? ?>? ..\iw ? irrTW- 3*?w:~jZ-t The Southern Patriot and President Fillmore.?The proof of the truly Southern and patriotic character of the Southern Patriot multiplies upon us. President Fillmore, with the most (Condescending politeness, has sent the Editor, under his own frank, a lot,.of books, which the Edi tor has publicly acl nowledged. Wo admire the liberal feelings of President Fillmore. It shows that he can Overlook the Southern sentiments of the Patriot, aiW reward i erit where over found. When we reflect that President Fillmore has all his life been a staunch advocate of freesoilisui, Hnd opposed to the extension of the Institutions of the South, opposed to the annexation of Texas lor this very reason, and an advocate for the prohibition by Congress of the removal oi slaves from one State to another; when we remember that he voted with the Abolitionists, whilst in Congress, and was nominated for his high office to conciliate their 6upnort, and is. if nnhlif. r>H? nml ni>in ions signify anything, essentially an Abolitionist himself, we are astonished that he should undertake so to patronize and educate a real Southern patriot. Surely the President does not suspect that the policy and doctrines advocated by tho Southern Patriot favor Northern interest and Northern ascendancy, ami the final triumph of his (Yeesoii and abolition principles??Mountaineer.
