Mr. Ceo. D. Haitiwanger Dead. A telegram a day or two ago brought the sad intelligence that Mr. Geo. D. Haltiwanger, formerly a Professor it Newberry College, and lately a lawyer in Lexington, committed suicide by drowning~ himself at Fort Worth, Texas, Thursday, the 17th instant. Sconveyance, and are going to stay. Shotgun Policy. Hilliard Cromer, colored, was shot and painfully wounded with a shotgun last Friday night near Mr. J. B. Kemp son's, in this County. Hilliard and an- 2 other man named WVise were walkingt a -long the road going toward Mr. Kemp Sson's, where Hilliard lives. They no ticed on the roadside several times that I tsome person seemed to be following I them. A t a certain point this person ( . came into the road from the woods, and 1 as he did so Wise said, "There's Jake Bowers." Cromer stooped down to ' pick up a rock, when the person fired, Sthe load lodging in Cromer's thigh. Cromer ran and the person followed him and struck him. on the head with I ,the gun. and then ran off. Wise is not . - certain that it was Bowers; but thinks, 8 it was. Hie and Cromer have had a, F difficulty lately about Bowers' wife. -In Time.
