Hardy, of the Maybinton section, died at Blease's Hotel in New berry Monday morning. He has been in bad health for several months, and I came to Newberry a week ago to have I a critical surgical operation performed. , Mr. Hardy was a brother of Mr. WV. D. The reading was interspersed witl' very excellent music on the piano h5 Mrs. WV. H. Clark. Business-for Court. At the approaching session of the Cir cuit Court there will be one case for homicide, one for arson, one for mali cious burning and one for accessory thereto, one for mule stealing, one foi carrying concealed weapons and three for assault with intent to kill. These cases will probably not take more than three days. So it is likely that a con siderable amount of civil business will be disposed of. Dramatic. LThe Newberry Thespian Club have ai rich treat in store for the lovers of the drama in our community. The play of "The Honeymoon," by Tobin, which has delighted theatre-goers for over half a century, is selected for represen tation at an early date. The style of the play is beautiful and rich, the plot versatile and interesting, and the char acters piquant and forcible. The scene Iry of the play, the characters and coq. tumes are Spanish. A perusal of the play affords a very pleasant pastime for an hour. A Pleasant Affair. One of the most agreeable occasions which has occurred in our State was the hop given by Mrs. Governor Jarvis, Friday 'night, to her friend and guest, Miss Anna Keitt, of South Carolina. Miss Keitt is a lovely blonde, accom plished in mind and manners, and since her visit here has won for herself many admirers. She is a daughter of the dis tinguished Lawrence Keitt, well remem bered by many of our older Carolinians. The ball-room of the old Yarboro was thronged by a happy and handsome crowd till a late hour,--Rcleigh ews. Eclectic Magazine. Trhe February number of the Eclectic shows the advantages of the increase of size which was initiated with the Janu ary number. It contains all the most striking and valuable articles from the current foreign periodicals, and has such a variety of matter that there is something to meet the tastes of every member of an intelligent family. A. Mitchell, who lives nine is miles from Bouknight'b Ferry, in Edge- I 11 field County, lost his gin-house by fire y Saturday night between 10 and 11 I g o'clock. Besides the house he lost sev en bales of cotton and about 650 bushels a of cotton seed. The gin and press (new) belonging to Messrs. Iurlong & Crouch were also burned. He proposes that the Council refuse to grant any more license, and for that body to establish a liquor house of its own; keep nothing he hut the best liquors, and deal it out by the bottle. In other words, for the. Council to prohibit the sale of liquor by any others than jhemselves--even Druggists are to be denied-and for the W "city fathers" of Newberry to become sa the lordly and dignified proprietors of cC one big Saleon, alias bar-room. I have watched the use of' the medicine 1-now known as "Swift's Syphilitic Specific'' to sirce the year 1827-over 50 years-and have never heard of a failure to cure when proper Ie h taken. I commenced the use of it on my eslaves, between 1850 and 1855. and as alsot did a number of my neighbors, and in every ease that came within my knowledge it ef cy fected a cure. In 183.5 my brother-in-law, ed George Walker, bought at auction a.slave rnot warranted. After the purchase it was re.disoveed hathehad had Syphilisfo nd t welve years.' His head was without a hair on it. He treatedi him with this remedy, and 1 in four weeks he was sound and well, and in Tb- a short time had as fine a head of hair as dwas ever owned by a negro. H1e owned this ar- slave many years, and he never had any re turn of the disease, nor' lost a day' s work. is This is only one among hundreds of instances i-of remarkable cnres made by th is medicine.
