Independert Ticket. A County ticket has been circulating ound recently which has created some mment. Whether this ticket has en nominated by any body of men, ~mocrat, Republican, Independent, or rerwise, we are not able to say. We not propose to print the full ticket, Stwo reasons; 1st. It has not been it to this office for that purpose, with a money; 2ndly, It would be unjust those whom we cannot interview is week to put in their names without ring them an opportunity at the same ce of expressing themselves on the bject. We have seen a few of the n already, and their views are given is week; we hope to see theothers by r next issue. Maj. Geo. G. DeWalt, whose name pears on the ticket for the Senate, ys: That he has heard the rumors out the ticket and understood that name was on it; does not know iether the ticket was nominated by a invention, by Independents, by Re bicans, or by a single individual; is much he does know, that his name as used- without his knowledge or nsent; that he will in no wise be a didate on that or any other Inde ndent ticket, and that if elected on ch ticket he would not serve. Mr. Osborne L. Schumpert, whose ame is on the ticket for the House of presentatives, says: That if he has en nominated at all it is without his iowledge or consent; that he will not n, and would not serve if elected. Mr. A. J. Livingston, whose name pears for County Commissioner, says e same in regard to himself. Mr. Thomias M. Lake, whose name pears for Clerk of Court, says the me for himself. Maj. Jno. P. Kinard, whose name pears ior Sheriff, says, that if he has een nominated he does not know it; at he declines to be interviewed, but ould like to have the Sheriff's office. Mr. E. WV. He has a splendid assortment of piece goods from which to select and cannot fail to please. Orders will be promptly and satisfactorily attended to. Personal. Mrs. M. E. Gilliam is in New York city. The Rev. John W. Kelly has been again compelled to visit Glenn Springs. Mr. D. M. Crosson, of Prosperity, is in Charleston taking a course of Medi cal lectures. Miss Nettie Boyd, daughter of Rev. Geo. M. Boyd, is on a visit to her grandfather's family. Mrs. O'Keefe, a lady from New York, is with Mrs. Mower. The ladies will find her exceedingly pleasant, and. perfectly conversant with her business. Geo. S. Mower, Esq., has gone to Boston as a delegate from the Court of Foresters of Newberry, to the Supreme Court of the Order, which meets in that City. Messrs. A. M. Bowers, T. Q. Boozer, J. T. Hornsby, Wm. Boland, James Dunbar, D. M. Ward, E. C. Longshore, W. W. Waldrop, and probably others from Newberry, went over to Atlanta last week. Mr. Fred. J. Ludette, travelling agent of the Columbia Register, paid us us a visit last Thursday. Mr. L. takes the position made vacant by the resig nation of Mr. C. H. Beard, and will canvass this and the upper Counties. We take pleasure in adding that he re presents a paper in every way entitled to the patronage of our people. Various and all About The Fair is of the past, but The fair are ever with us. Court first Monday in November. Only two weeks to Hancock's elec tion. Pay up that subscription-it's long past due. The season for cotton picking has been splendid. Mr. Fred. Werber has a vigorous tea plant in bloom. Newberry County Fair was a success in all respects. Our meat market has been tolerably well supplied lately. Slight rain Saturday night- not enough to lay the dust. There is a great hungering after chickens, butter and eggs. There are many fields white with cotton, waiting for pickers.. Every man is expected to do his duty at the approaching election. Mr. T. V. Wicker saw unmistakable frost on Thtarsday morning last. Good cows are very scarce-a score or more of people are in want of one. Very few idle hands in town at pres ent-all are engaged in picking cotton. Mr. W. 0. Goree has sold his planta tion on Bush river to Mr. P. J. Ste phens. The cotton crop in this County is "panning out" better than the farmers expected. Mr. Holly, one of our meat purvey ors, has a nut which is half hickory and half walnut. Now is the time to subscribe for the Newberry HERAu.-only 50 cents for three months. -The finest looking cow in town pass ed the HERAw Office Monday-the property of Mrs. Mower. The trade of Newberry this Fall has been unusually good-and the stocks of goods riever were larger. Mr. Jacob Crouch, near Dead Fall, had his little son to fall in the fire one day last week. His hands were badly burned. Among the novelties at the State Fair will be an Incubator, which hatch es chickens without the use of a hen. What next? The poorest paid men are the minis tes-next in order editors. The most men think these two classes live on air -thin air at that. The circulation of gold has worked harm in some cases, many parties car rying it home and hiding it away, in stead of paying their little debts. The Republicans will have a big "blow out" at the Court House the 30th. C. J. Stolbrand, their candidate for Congress, and others will speak. Mr. McGimpsey cures colic in horses with his Magic Soap. When he fails to cure, as will sometimes occur, his left hand supporter kills the animal. Call on Mr. Melvin B. Kelly, at the office of Geo. S. Mower, Esq., and get a Premium List of the State Fair; and be sure to compete for the liberal pre miums. Dr. Tanner has at last met his match, and more than his match. A calf in Holt County, Missouri, got en,angled in r a pile of rails, and remained in that po sition for a period of forty-one days, without food or water. It came out all right. Messrs. Peterson's Magazine Is on our table for November, ahead of all others, and as usua,, more and more improved. It is a wonder how this unrivalled lady's book can be pub lished at so low a price, yet always be getting better; but the secret., we sup pose, lies in its enormous circulation. The November issue leads off with a capital steel engraving, "Missy In The Sulks," and is followed by one of those _ double-size steel fashion plates, superb ly colored. only seen in this periodical. Then comes a weird engraving, 'The Moated Manor House," illustrating a powerful story; and then some fifty wood cuts of dresses, patterns in em broidery, crochet, &c., &c. "Mary, Queen of Scots," is a profusely illustra ted article on that unhappy queen; and there are tales besides, and novelets, &c., [&c. With this number appears the Prospectus for 1881, when Six Or- a iginal Novelets will be given, and in e addition a hundred shorter stories.
