The "Advertiser"-supplementary to the Herald-makes its bow to the citizens of Newberry with the compliments of the holi day season now near at hand. It is not de signed to supercede the Newberry Herald, but in a convenient, holiday sort of fashion to present the cards of prominent business men of the town to the public, in the hope that the several cards contained in it will re ceive~the consideration they severally merit, As stated elsewhere this paper will be pub lished semi-occasionally-that is when the spirit moves the publisher and advertiser and as it is published free the reader will not be harrassed for money. Every man, woman and child in the county, or in any other part of the world, if they can read will be consid ered entitled to a copy-the only condition required is that the advertisements be read and digested. Read the following lines with care, and then think what a hard life-an- editor leads: Scratch, scratch, scratch for his daily bread, The editor sits with low, bent head; He writes that the rest of the world may read That old man Jones has made a deed, Or that little John Smith has stolen a pig; That farmer Brown has a bran new gig; That old maid Green is married at last; Or Mr. Black from the earth has passed. Thus he writes of all that is said, Till at last we hear that the editor's dead. Rest has come for the weary hand; He held free tickets for the better land.
