at the State Fair last Wednesday and
Thursday in the trotting races, and she
didn't have to- let out all her speed to
do it either.
Mr. Geo. S. Mower, as Assignee, will

Mr. John Litzey, of Pomaria, lost his
gin-house by fire on Tuesday last, with
the contents, consisting of about 500 lbs.
of seed cotton, some ginned cotton, &c.
The fire it is supposed was accidental.

Brooks Abramis, one of the negroes
that broke into Col. Lipscomb's store
two weeks ago, escaped from jail Satur
day morning. He went out into the
yard for some purpose in custody of
-Ch-,rley Gary, and while out there gave
Gary the slip and left.
THE 63D MAN.-S. S. Bridges, a
colored representative from Newberry,
presented himself before the-Demoerat
ic House Wednesday, and was sworn
in as a member of that body. Well
done for Bridges. That made 63 memi
hers holding certificates of election from
the State Board of Canvassers.
.METHODIST CONFERENCE.-The An
nl Conference of the Methodist Epis
copal Church convenes in Chester on
the 13th. Bishop Kavanauh will pre
side. The Rev. C. HI. Pritchard, of
INe'.berry Station, and the Revs. T. WV.
-Herbert and L. F. Beatty have left for
Conference.
A fatal affray occurred at Prosperity
Thursday, the 7th instant. Mr. Dray
ton Browvn and Mr. Roht. Y. Neal be
'came engaged in an altereation in Fel
'lers' saloon, when Neal was shot by
.Brown and killed. Brown claims that
Neal was attempting to draw his pistoJ
on him. and that the shooting was there
fore done in self-defence.
PATIENCE AND PEACE.-A letter just
-reeived from Col. Keitt, for'which we
have not space, advises the people tc
wait trustingly and patiently. Gen.
Hampton is doing all that can be (lone;
and he feels assured that if the people
of the State persevere in the samne
