They in- a tend to meet in town every-week, .a iJ t OLD PINs.-In our last issue we had the felicity of noticing an old hat found after it had been lost for thirty-four years, and this week we have the pleas-t ure of making mention of a couple of venerable pins found in a package oft papers which have reposed quietly in the Probate's Office for fifty-eight years, the package having been placed awayt in 1816. We are undler obligations to the present polite-and efficient Judge of Probate. J. C. Leahy, for a sight of those old discolored relics, which bear the im press of a clumsier make than the pins of the present day. As to the question often asked, "where do the pins go to?" we are now permitted to answer for two t of the articles as above. GooL> NEWS.-There are folks in town with their "pockets full of rocks," but -neither 'they nor the public are any better off for that, for while the one holds fast to that essential of hppiness,the other is prevented by the extraordinary heat of the weather from going for the first mentioned fellows It is a pleasur-e to say, however, as a set off, that Messrs. Nathan & Holland, are in town with a cellar full of ice, which they are disposing of rapidly and gen erously ~in qjuantities to suit all demands. The cellar is under the store of Mr. ,fPhier. and is open at all hours of the .day. No one need complain now, for* we have now an ice house. TowN Couxcin O-rmNANCES.-ThC ollowing is the substance of ordin:mees eently passed by the Town Council: As to the market: The market is a )LbliC narket. If anybody sells beef or other fresh icat at any place in town except the iarket house,'he will be fined $10 for ich offence. A stall in the market is provided for rsons living out of town, selling meat I their own raising in town. For the ze of the same they shall pay fifty cents a every beef, twenty cents on ev iY g, and fifteen cents on every sheep, >ld therein. No butcher or other person can trans r his stall to another. Penalty $5. While fresh meat can not be sold at y other place than the market, butch -s can, if they want to, deliver meat id to tieir customers. No butchering of meat intended for de shall be done within the town of ewberry, except at such places as the ouncil may designate, under a penalty $5 for each offence. Anybody selling meat in town on mnday shall be fined $50 for each of nee. The penalty for .sllhig unsound meat the market is a fine of $10 for each ence. Butchers cheating in weight (if caught it) will be fined $10. They must use ell balanced scales and not s:elyards. Good behavior must be kept at the arket. If anybody opposes, molests, ases. mahteats, or obstruets a butch selling meat at the market, he is lia e to be fined not less than $.3 nor ore than $20. And if the butchers ick up among themselves, in additibn >the fine, they will have to forfetbt their ails. You can not sell cured meat or grain the market. If you do you are apt >be fined $5. If a stall is not paid for within five ays after the rent falls due it will be mted to somebody else. No huekstering must be done on the ;rees, but at the market. Penalty for iolation is $5. Th*Chief of Police is to be on hand the opening of the market every iorning, to see that the stalls are kept ean and good order is observed. This law went into full effect and ope ition on the 12th day of June, 1874. As to cattle and hogs: Cattle must be enclosed from sunset > morning, and hogs all the time. If head of cattle is caught on the streets t night or a hog at any time, it will be pounded by the Town Council, and e owner of the former will have to ay $5, and the owner of the latter $1 recover possession. It is the duty of the Police force to do e impoundling, and to keep the cattle d hogs subject to the ot-der of the In mdant and Wardens. When :m offending animal is taken p the Police must notify the owner ereof. If the owner refuse~s to pay ie fine to the Council, or fails to show :ood reason why the penalty should not e enforced, the animal will he sold to be highest bidder, the fine deducted, ,nd the balance paid to the owner. If the Police cannot find the owner of ie cattle or hog impounded, five writ n notices shall b)e posted, one at the Lepot of the G. & C. R. R; one on the ~ourt House door; one at the corner of . F. F'ant's drug store ; one at the cor er of D. M. Ward & Co.'s store; and ie at Nathan A. Hunter's shop, on the orner of Harrington and Cahiw:ell ;trets, describing the animal and giv. g notice that it will be sold at 11 elock the next day if the fine is nol >aid. This law went into effect June 12th, .874. As to raising supplies for 1874, and ither purposes: Every building, lot or other lamded ~state, except such lands as are used ~xelusively for Agricultural purposes, s liable to a tax of twenty cents on er n-v hundred dollars of the assessedl val i thereof.
