ENTERPRIsE.-We take pleasure in calling attention to the card of the Southern Ware house Co., of which Mr. Ed. Hope is the efficient President. MR. W. T. W.U-GHT-is about to remove to Abrams & Metts' old stand. He will thus occupy a position altogether better, and with a large stock will present great attractions to the publ*c. MESSRS. SINGLEToN & Co.-Desiring to make room for new stock, are running off their present stock at bargain prices, and as ~the~ assortment now in store is large and v-a *rious, i: will be well to call in and examine goods, and realize the benefit offered. DRUGs, CHESMIcALS, &c.-One of the lar gest and purest stocks of drugs, chtemic.us, medicinal liquors and wines in the up-country. is to be found at the estab;ihment of Dr. S. F. Faut. His petiumeries, soaps and toilet articles are also of the fuliest character and of the best. Coa. H. P. HAxMsmr.-l'he citizens of SNewberry are inc)rmed that this gentleman will be here on iVednesday or Thursday of this week. His connection with the pro posed cotton mill at Greenville, will explain the reason for this announcement, as it is be lieved that there are capitalists here who wish to take stock int that enterprise. Ta RIGHT TaIsG.-Messrs. Moorman & Maybjin have determined to break up the old and non-paying credit system, as being of nto advantage to themselv'es or customters. They will hereafter sell for cash only and at cash prices. Its a sensible move, and one which buyers wiil appreciate when they realize the difference. FARMINC AiT A STAND SmtI.-TheC con tinned and. frequent rains have much retard ed all lfarming operations in this County, and f,armers are farther behind with their Spring work than they have been for many years. Not only will this put back the crops perhaps, but the expense in keeping idle hands literal ay dong nothing is a weight which few aeable to bear at this time. Ida. EDwaRD CAns wELL.--We are pleased to state, this distinguished apos tle of temper ance and eloquent lectnrer, will address the citizens of Newberry on Thursday night, at the Town Hall. The most of our readers are r aware, thtat Mr. Carswell is the ablest temper ance lecturer of the day, and the high enco miumis paid him by thte press, warrants us in saying that a rare treat is promised in this lecture. Too LATE.-T'he friendly budget from 'Columbia is too late for this issue. Will have place next week. Our Charleston correspondence for the samte reason must lie over. Just arrived fro:n a pleasant trip to Wi! liamston Female College, and finding every 'stick' of space ocupied, we must defer men tion of whtat was seen and how our time was spent, till next issue. A STRANGE AND FATAL DIsEASE.--The Stin ier News, says that five colored persons, one adult and four children, in Mididleton township, in that County, htave, wi:hin the -past few days, fallen victims to a disease, having the appearance, and presenting the identical symptoms of the epizootic, with which all the horses in the country have beet affected. Our infort.antt states that all whbe saw the cases, believe it to have been the sam disease. -:We trust that no stuch fatal symptoms may show themselves here. MEtAscaOI;r.Our sympathies have beet largely drawn out the past week, in con sequence of a serious affliction stistained by D). F in losing his agreeable companion and every morning ivALKtsT. His live miles lbefore breakfast are now unfortunately dis con tinned, ntil he can find another bot yoyageur to plod through the muddy suburb: -1f Newberry in quest of new vigor and health -t is a bad wind, however, which blows rc ne good, and though we mourn for the j>ctor, we rejoice for his lost friend, becaust *e loss of the one is the other's happy gain a iha married a wife. Good Itack atten MESSRs. W. P. RussEL & CO.-Thecard of this old and popular firm will be found in this wek's paper, and we invite attention to it. These gentlemen areextensive manufacturers of all kind of building material, and keep a stock on band large enough to supply all demands. Mr. W. P. Russell, it will be reinembe:ed by the rendcr, is also largely engaged in the business of B'tilding and general house car pentry, under the tIr:n name of Russell and Su!livan, and can furnish a lou-e complete from foundatiou :o apex at their large fac tory, and ship it and then put it up for you. All they need is an o der for the work. wolk. Too lLon.-A friend complained the other day to us, that at the Berger entertainment he was almost wh:iily cut off fro:n a sight of the stage and its occupant<, by a ladies' hat in front of him. lie therefor votes the present two-story affair, which the ladies rig their heads of with, a considerable nuisance on public occasions. Ie thinks they are a questionable ornailent, as a top finish to the lovely whole, at any timae; especially though, when they obstruct the view, must they be considered ugly. Had the lady in question only kept quiet, he might have looked round the big abominable thing and seen something, but she was so frisky and kept bobbing about so uiceasingly to right and left, as made the effort vaini oa his part. Our advice is, if th ladies cannot be induced to take in a reef, or sail under bare poles, that our friend take a cushion along to sit on. Da. ANIsANsEL'S LECTURE.-On Thurs day evening last, agreeable to announcement, the gentleman above named delivered a lec ture in the Town Hall. We regret that there was not a larger audience out to hear him. The subject-tbe Frenchman in America, his truub'es, mizhaps and mibinterpietetions was a happy one azrl pleasingly delivered. It abounded in anecuote bearing on the sub. ject, and beside was replete with many practical truths of benefit to his hearers, together with facts in hiatory which it were well to bear in mind. The Doctorhas certain ly left an agreeable impressIon behind him, and when he returns rgain, which he promises soon to do, we will advise our citizens not to omit so great a treat as his lectures afford. We bespcak fur him a cordial and large greet ing at all other points he n.-s visit. PL SOCIABLE.-"Men who isolate them selves from society and have no near and dear family ties, are the most uncomfortable of human beings. Byron says that "hap piness was born a twin," but the phrase, thougih pretty and poetic, does not go far enough. We are gregarious, and are not intended to m:.rc'i throngl 1le either in single or double file. The man who cares for nobody, for whom nobody cares, has little to live for. You must have a heap of embers to have a giowing fire. Scntter Them apart. and they become dim and Culd. So, to have a brisk. vigorous life, y.>u mnst hae a gronp of lives to keep each warm, to afford mutual encouragement, confidenc. and support. If you wish to live the life of a man and not a fungus, be sociable, be brotherly, be charitable, be sympathe:ie, and labor earnest ly for the good of your kind. ABOUT Tase CouxTY.-Mr. Win. Ray's gin-bouse was enltered some nighlt since and a hale of cotton taken therefrom. It was afterward found. Dr. W. A. Fair, son of JTas. Fair, de ceased, died at his home, near Prosperity, on Thursday night last. Jas. L'auri,pr-ivame, Troop G., 7th Reg. U. S. Cavalry and a native of Scotland, lately died. iIe was buried with military honors. Thie troop of whmich the dec-eased was an honorable member, has been withdrawn from this post and left here last week for the territory of Dacotah. The streets of the town are rapidly drying, and with a few days of fine weather, a drive will be a positive luxury, more especially will pedestrians have cause to rejoice. In ancient days, the celebrated precept was "Know Thyself." In modern times, it has been supplanted by the far mnore fashionable maxim, "Know thy neighbor, and every thing about himt." We are now having clear sunshine overhead, dry streets under foot, and a balmy air to fan the cheek. Man and beast botm felt its itifuence, while the little birds even attempted to get up a ch irp. Tfhe little boys and not a few big ones have been in exstacies for some days, in conse quence of an organ and monkey show. Many of these little shavers had never seen an educated monkey before. The pmo prictors are reaping their reward. We were p'eascd to see our good friend and esteemled fellow citizen, Col. isobt. Moorman, in our sanctum on Monday, alter an illness Iof near two months, and that he begins to look like himself once more. On en tering our new readinug room, for the first time, he facetiously remarked that we had removed from the sanctum to the sanctorum, so much pleased wvas he with the high order of im provement exmhbited. A prominent politician, Matt Gray, in view of the fight now waging in regard to the ofice of County Treasurer, says its a Jo:z-on shame that there are only two Richmond's in the field. He thinks there should be three, for the Governor cannot decide between two. Hie says its a shame the Governor should be so bedevilled. The horn of the dilemma Ipesters Matt, and :he consequence is that lie takes hold of all the horns he can see and1 puts theum under his test. To Wome~n. Both Married and Single. A pply for relief before you become a con irined invalid. I have been for years past attending strict' ly to the treatment ot' diseases of women, both married and single, and as the number of cases continues to increase almost dailyI will pay special attemntion to those whlo mnay apply to me for help, and may, if I should get a sufficient number of cases, make it a specialty. - There are many women who are taking medicines recommended for such diseases, which are worse than useless, they palliate and someti-mes seem to give relief, but in fact they postpone the evil until the disease assumes the chronic form, and then they up' ply to the Physician for relief, which can be Igiven, but not so soon as when taken in the first or early stage. I -nse no quack medicines, I treat diseases on rational and scientine principles. P. B. RUFF. N. . prctcefor cash only and prompt paymnts.Mar. 12, 10-'-tf. Dr. Tutt's Pills. Seven years ago we adopted the plain of sending our1 "F1armer" Cookii.g Stoves through tihe cont~ry with wago:s, by our travelling salesmen, in crder to supply a want long felt in the Sou th, and) that each family nmight hnave an opportunity of sceing if not pu2rchasing one of these indispensable household articles 'Te abundant success of our enterprise throughout the States of Missouri, Kentuck y, Tetnnessee arid Georgia, and the unaiveisal favor with which our Stoves are re.-ived e very where, convinces us that in ordIer to supply the con:inued growing demand, we must largely increase our forces at the Foundry ;hence we have increasedl our daily mtatnfacture of this one patterin to thirty, and will still further in crease it to Sifty if our trade continues to demand it. (Our salesmen, who will visit you, are authiorized to give the same term: as though you made the purchelase direct from ourselves it the Foundryv. We have but osst rmeC, wItChi 's cisT 0s TuiZ sToy, and fromn th:at we never deviate. This stove has nO comiplected arratnge menIts such2 as dampers and inide. flut plates as in all other stoves, but is so sitmply constructed tihat any one may use it sue. cessfully. It is very heavy~ and made onmly of the best goalities of new iron so mixed as to secure a toHgh, strong plate, whicl NEvEa cracks by fire. To those persons in the Stove trade wi< think their business will be ruined by us. and who therefore oppose and mtisrepreseni us and our goods at all places, we desire t< assure them that instead of being an inrjury to them, we~ arc doing them a benefit, by building up a business which has heretof'or< been neglected, ard by introducing an ar ticie of hoisehod utility, must ultiimately bring theml into gen.eral use in every fatmi ly.
