Farm, Garden and lonselold. FARMERS WHO TAKE THE PAPERS AND FARMERS WHO DO NOT. A Sonthern writer thus describes two clas,es of farmers: One thing we have noticed from the time we entered upon our apprenticeship, forty-eight years ago the 10th of this month, that Providence gen erally smiles benignantly and pro.perously upon the man who keeps himnself sjuare on the pri-t er's books. You take the subscription list of aiy paper where the advance sys tem is not religiously adhered to, call outthe names of those who pay promptly, th3n visit their habita tions, and in nine cases out ten you will find them in the enjoy ment of all the ordinary comforts of life-pleasant and contented households-the husband kind and industrious-, the wife happy and afectionate, children sprightly and well-behaved at home and abroad, sleek cattle grazina in the green pastures and good stock feeding in the stalls, thrifty frnit. and shade trees around, flowers blooming in the gai den and about the yard, and an air of neatness, comfort and substance without and within. Now, take that other class of patrons-those that never pay at all, or have to be "ding-donged out ofit" at the end of the third year; or what is still worse, the newspa per sponge, who is not able to pay for a paper, but ever ready to bor row from his neighbor-ten to one vou wi*l find a najority of theni al waysatfiieted wiLh-short crops,"al ways "hard run," always "out of kelter," axes, plows and"I hoes eter u-ally dull, horses that look like the genius of famine, cattle nearly related to Pharaoh's lean kine. and too poor :o low without lean ing up against the rickety fence; gates off the hlinge- doors half hung, windows guiltless of glass. not a fruit or shade tree in sight, rank Jamestown weeds blooming around the door sills, and instead of luxuriant meadows and peren niai pastures, sassafras and briar bushes growing in the fence-rows and broken places, and hill-sides furrowed with gullies, and bunches of tall sedge waving mournfully In the breeze all over the farm, an d worse than all, a morose and un happy husband,a discontented and illnatured wife, and disobediant,in, tractable children. The reader may think this is a Lacysktc; but it airnt by a good deal. -There is more truth thaLn poetry in it.' A TT ENTION TO FRI 1 Ts-FEnr aavY Wonk.-As a rule, it is better not to prune at all than to prune too much, especially if fruit trees have at tained sufficient size to produ~ce good erops ofgruit. Peach trees, ditTering somewhat from other classes Of trees inl forming large quantities of fruit-bearing wood in a short t'me. need an nual shorten ing ir of the lpreviousyear'sgrew th. Failing m0 this will c-ause the fruit to be vast in inumibers, but small in size, and often from this dlefect will hardly pay marketing ex Fruit tirees of all kinds c-an be transplanted withi success during fihis month.
