Farm, Garden and Household. What to Sow and how to Grow Crops for soiling Cat tle. Mr. George E. Waring, the ex cellent manager of Ogden Farm, at Newport, R. I., lays down the following programme for a herd of twelve cows: 1. Early the previous autumn, sow three acres of winter rye, to cut the next spring from May 15 to June 15. 2. Early in April, sow two acres in oats, to be cut from June 12 to July 1. 3. Late in April, sow two acres in oats or barley, to be cut from July 1 to July 15. 4. Early in May, sow two acres of oats or barley, to be cut from July 15 to August 10. 5. Middle of May sow two acres of oats or barley, to be cut from August 19 to September 1. G. Middle of Juna re-vlant No. 1 with corn, which is to be cut from September 1, to September 20. 7. Early in July re-s,)w plot No. 2 with ibArley, to be cut from Sep temb er 20 until roots and cabbages come in, which is usual!v October 1 to 15. S. In September three acres of' plots 4 and 5 are to besown in witer rye0 fr the next spring's Mr. Waring's exper!.nce dem outr'ates two general principl.: 1st. The earliest abundant food will be secured by the use (if win ter rye. 2d. The best and most abundant food for the later summer and earlier autumn time will be se cured by the use ofindian corn. An experiment was made last year by the officers (if the Agri cultural College of' Pennsylvania to determine the amount of food per acre. Seed was planted May 15, at the rate of seven bushels per acre, one-half drilled, in drills two and a half feet apart, the other sown broad-ast. On the 20th of' August. began cutting. and on that part which was drilled, gathered 04,000 pounds, or 17.44 tons per I acre. iungrarian grass is a quiVkly turned food for catte. Onj the same fArm three peeks were sown per acre on the 21st of May. Au g 2st 2-73 days after pi-antin--it was gathered and dried, makin 5.804 puids of excellent brigat hav, which the horses and cattle ate with a relish, liking it fully as well as they did the elover.
