the present appearance of the Western
provision markets, those planters in the
.auth, who staked their botton dollar on

corn on the 27th day of April, one year

per bushel, by the car load. It is now
worth $1.50-a difference of 45 cents per

EnnEK MACHINE IYANm.--The Gor
ernor General of India offers a rewra'd of
tive thousand pounds sterling, for the in
vention of a machine which will dispenise,
at. moderate cost, with hand labor in
separating the lint of the i-rmie from its
woody substance. Just such is the ma
chine in the South, to make ramie one of
the most profitable crops, we can raise,
not only on aecoutst of its intrinsic value
but becaese it is much less exacting as
regards labor than cotton. We hope the
machine Ju'st invented by Mr. Lefranc, of
New Orleans, may get the reward. It
is said to crush the bark, extract the
guim and cleazt the fibre at the same mo
mnent.

tells of two young ladies *'bo recently
marketed at Columnbus two bales of cot
. ton, raised entirely by themselves.
It is, perhaps,- ntnecessary to add that
they are not '"girts of the period."
