The names were registered in the usual way, but in some way a mis take was made in reference to the Identity of the bride. The ret of the party had retired she was certain, since she had heard them in their apartments, What had become of him? Impatienae gradually grew in to terror. Sbe rang her bell, and the ser vant knocked at the door. "Do you know where my bus band is ?" she inquired. "Ain't be in here. mam ?" "May be be stopped out into the city, mai, and will be back '4'% afraid ; oh, do inquire at the offee, and see if. there is any inteUigeuce about him." The servant retired, and in a few moments returned with infor mation that there was none. The witwas now alarmed in earnest. She never had a husband befire, and, like the man who drew the - - elephant in the lottery, scarcely knew what to do with the ani mal. It her anxiety she went to the room of one of her bridesmaids and knocked at the door. "Who'e there ?" was inquired in smuets unmistakably mascu lines "Me, Mary ; but, mercy, who are -Ou ?" There was a sudden stir, and the.sound offeet falling heavily on the carpeted floor. 1Who the devil am I in bed -Wikthen ? she heard the man say, as the door swung open and her husband's face peered. - "Oh ! I'm distracted about you; wbere have you been ?" "I've been here in bed; but, deuce take me, I thought you wenr bore, too." "Oh I James, it wasn't me." "Who is it, then ?" "Why it's Sarah." Alast, however, the pants were found and put on, and the husband and wife escaped to their chamn her, whilst Miss Sarah doubled locked her door against all further intrusion.
