Ta Caticn.-On :haday last very inter eating forenoon and evening services were held in the Methodist Chnreh, by the tal ented presidmg pastor, Rev. 0 A. Darby. At Aveleigh (Presbyterian) Church an elegant discourse was pronounced in the morning, by the pastor, Rev. R. A. Mickle, after which the Holy Eucharist was admit istered with impresive solemnity. The afternoon service was also held. In the Lutheran Church, Rev. E. T. Walk er, of Edgefield, read the beautiful Episco pal services for the day, and preached both morning and afternoon. The afternoon sermon was from the pathetic parable of the Prodigal Son. We were pleased to see the pastor of the Methodist Church in at tendance at the afternoon service. Bishop Davis cid not visit this parish last week as previously announced, owing to imperative labors elsewhere. No services were held in the Baptist Church in consequence of the absence of the Pastor,~Rev. Richard Furman, who is now in Macon,attending an important gene. rrl convention of the Southern Baptist Church. His return is anxiously looked for by his many friends and admirers. It 1., certain that no such thought entered into the imtagination of the young peo pie, nor did a thought of the kind get tto the back part of the heads of the mammas~ arnd an-ities, who fir a week before h,adu bee-n as busy as bees; the first with tibbons and all the little eteet eras which make up the sum of outward adorning, and a hich have so happy an effect on the young tmen, and the other in the no less delightful occupation of mixing.up all those swcets which enter into t.s co)mpoulnd of rakes, pies a' d cutards, the stuffing and haking of tur kies and chickens, and the boiling of juicy hama. A postponement was not to be thought of. A'l things wete ready, public notice had been made and if the weatber proved contrary it was no fault of any .one concerned in the pic-nic. It came off therefore, and commenced with a very charming ride on the cars- to -the scene of frolic, enhanced by ita being a tribute to the.graces and the occasion by that very elever gentleman, lir. No one but an unchatitable person would under such circumstances I expect wore than we have done, and as tnother spasm is coining, we conclude by saying that the pic-nic was very en joyable, the young ladies beautiful, the manmas charming, the eatables of the very best and most abundant, and the elouds considerate, holding up their sbow er until the whole happy crowd reached some in the afternoon. Its a pity that 4 May comes but once a year.
