In the issue of the YorkvIlle Enquirer for tha 4t1 of June. will be commenced the publication of the above thrilling and interesting nouvelette, written expressly for its columns, by one of the most popular authors of this State. The princl, pal scenes of this story are laid in Charleston ard vicinity, and the story cannot fail to prove interesting to all who are familiar with the events which occurred in that locality during the late war. i One of the moet painful circumstances connect.. ed with the heroic defence of Charle ton. during its three years of siege, is to be found in the fact, that during all this time, there were persons in the city. 'in high life," who were engaged as spies in sending information to the besiezers. Drawings of the 1ortitications were furoi4hed, weak points noted. and the movement of troops indioated as soon as begun, and the fleet notified of the time of arrival and departure of blockade running res-els. So cautiousy did these emis Faries of the enemy conduct their work, that for a long tine the skill of the most eminent detez tives was baffled in their endeavors to break up the illicit correspondence. These spies were the souice of extreme annoyance to the Command ers in Charleston, and the information they were ena led to furnish, often thwar ed their best ma% tured designs upon the euemy. As a proof ot the completeness of this conspiracy. it may be remarked, that the daily papers of the city were frequently read on board the blockade fleet, the samf- day of their publication. I he author of 'Isolette. or the Female Spy," has taken the principal characters and incidents in this aftair, awd under assumed natnes, has pre sented them in the form of a thrilling, and well w itten romance, historic and ilpaginative.
