EDITOR : Perhaps an item or two with 1 reference to this organization might be in teresting to a portion of your readers. The nature and object of the association are in dicated in the title and need not be remarked upon here. The Society had had no meeting since July '64 until the 2d ult., when it was reorganized at Head Spring Church under favorable auspices, some 33 persons attaching themselves as members. The officers elected were as follows: Maj. Jno. P. Kinard, Pres.; Rev. J. Hawkins, Vice Pres.;Rev W. A. Grier, Sec. and E. P. Chahners, Treas. The ,con tribution of -iny sum, however small, will constitute a person a member of the Society one dollar ($1.00) will entitle the giver to a Bible and ten dollars ($10.00) will make him a life member. Since the meeting above mentioned one other has been held at Beth Eden-By appointment a sermon was deliver ed by Rev. W. M. Grier. Business matters were then attended to-a good many names were added to the membership. The place seetoed for next meeting was King's Creek time, Saturday before the 2d Sabbath in September. Those interested wi please re member this. A sermon may be expected. All are ready to qcknowledge that this is a ood cause-a work'which calls for christian effort and support. It is not a mere experi ment, the results of which are doubtful. The record of the American Bible Society (of which this is an auxiliary) is written in letters of hVing light. The good which has been accom plished and whicli is now being accomplished declare it to be an institution worthy of the great ohject in viVw, and having a just claim to a liberal support. St. John's day was celebrated by Walhalla Chapter and Blue Ridge Lodge in a becomn'g manner. A grand masonic pic nic was graced by the beauty and intelligence of Waihalla and the surrouning country. A case of murder, too horrid for recital, oc curred near Medina, New York, on the 18th inst. A clergyman, named Lindsiey, wh.ipped his son, a child three years old, so savageiy, that it died under the infliction.
