Lad Shoots Self.
! Orangeburg, March 5 ? Robbie Axson,
the 9-year-oid son of R E. Axson,
dhot himself through the foot on Monday'
afternoon while playing with a
rifle which he thought was not loaded.
The ball entered the thick fleshy part
of his foot and passed through into
the ground. The accident occurred
near Norway, in this county, where
the little boy lives. The injury is not
serious and little Robbie will scon be
well again.

the son of the Rev. A. D. P. Gilmour,
D. D., who underwent a serious ope- J
ratiop at Richmond, Va., a few days
apo for the eradication of the scars on
his face, which he sustained last fall
at a fire, is getting: along nicely. The
operation is said to have been a success.
Dr. Gilmour is the greatly esteemed
pastor of the Purity Presbyterian
church of this city. He and his
wife are in Richmond with their son.

Greenville Child Killed.
Greenville, March 4 ? Playing with
other children on the second floor of
a house under course of construction
here, little Frank Howell, 3-year old
son of Henry G. Howell of this city,
fell 20 feet or more to the floor and
was killed almost instantly. The
child's head struck the sharp sills,
crushing his skull.
The child was the pet of the neighbornood.
His mother was ill at the
time and is now prostrated.

Steven Kirby Dies.

Steven Kirby^ ofjPacolet, a cousin of

skull. Ho died this afternoon at 5:15
o'clock. The police have arrested
two negrcs whom ihey suspect or being
competed .with the assault.

House Boat on Edisto.
Orangeburg, March 4.?A small
house boat was launched upon the
Edisto river at this city today. The
boat was constructed by E. M. Grady
and is about 30 feet long and about
12 feet wide. A gasoline engine will
furnish the motor power. The beat
can carry from 12 to 15 persons. It
will be used for pleasure and will
carry parties on outings and picnics
and fishing.
This boat is just the beginning of a j
number of boats that will be placed
on the Edisto river as soon ai the j
river is cleaned of snags and other j
obstructions. It is expected here ih.it j
?35,000 will be expended- by tlie gov- \
ernment in cleaning cut the Edisto
river.

shoveling coal in the railroad, ycrds
here Muhamet Beketash, 24 years old,
was beheaded by a steam scoop shovel.
ITe slipped and fell into the coal pile
