The Lexington high school has entered
the State song contest. This
school is located at the county seat
and is a State-aided high school The
students of the entire county are interested
in the school and by coming
here will get the beru fit of thelibraryAll
former students and patrons are)

ry. The school is endeavoring to enlarge
its usefulness not only for Lexington
district, but for the entire county.

Apply for Pensions.
There were 37 n8W applications for
pensions in Fexingfcon county this
year, according to the statement of
the Lexington county pension board.
I This is an increase over former [years,
it being the effort of every person
| practically who did service or who
was oonnectod in anyway with the
| War Between the [Sections to draw
a pension, if possible. The board passed
favorably upon 18 of the new applications
while the others received an
unfavorable , report. Twenty-three
pensioners who were on the list las
year have died since the last roll was
compiled, two have been transferred
and one has left the Stated ?The board

The Oldest Veterans Dead.
Sunday, the 8th, there died at th3
Confederate Soldiers' home in Columbia
the oldest veterans ever admitted
to the institution, J._F. DeMerrit,
aged 94; and also Joseph Gidier, aged
84. Mr. DeMerrit was a native of Newberry,
Mr. Gidier, of Charleston. Th
bodies were carried to their homes fo
burial.
