Will Wage Campaign. * Orangeburg, July 11.?The antidispensary people of Orangeburg county will make a campaign previous to the approaching election for the purpose of presenting fairly the issue, so that the electors may be prepared to vote intelligently, as they state. The anti-dispensarites state that there are numerous reasons why they wish to reach every voter of the county and let him understand what the election means. - The schedules of meetings include addresses to be delivered at Elloree, Bowman, Bethlehem church, Jamison, Eutawville, Holly Hill, Cattle Creek, Branchville, Cope, Cordova, Springfield, Norway, North, Neesos and Orangeburg. These meetings will he held between July 24 and August 15. The last meeting of the series will be held at the court house, this city, on the evening of- August 15. Promi nonfc speakers will be on hand at all of these meetings. Paris, Jujy 10.?Jack Johnson, the negro heavy-weight prize lighter, ac-. companied by his wife and his nephew, reached Paris thi3 afternoon from the tJnited States by way of Montreal. Johnson said he intended to make Paris his headquarters in the future, and that never on any account would he fight again in America. Sawyer, chief clerk to the Comptroller General, came over to cheek the big accounts of the county. After a careful inspection the examiner found all of the accounts correct. Mr. Sawyer complimented all of the officers personally, and added that Lexington county should be congratulated upon haviDg such competent men in office. All of the county's financial affairs have to go through the auditor's office, and Mr. Sawyer was free to say that Auditor Dent had . everything in tiptoe shape, and remarked that Lexington's bookkeeper was far above the average A special committee of the grand jury was present t'o witness the settlement.?News -and Courier. J Greenville, July 11.?Sheriff Rector f has in his possession a warrant for a z vonnar necrress named Mamie Bobo. of I | the Fairview section of the county, who, it is alleged, attempted to destroy her two-week9-old baby by drowning it in a stream near her home. The babe was found by a \ white man one morning, several days I ago, after it had lain in the water overnight. The baby survived, however, and was carried by the white man to a negro house where it received treatment. The mother of the babe wa9 found and her child was returned to her. The mother is said to be in a delirious condition and was unable to accompany the officers to Greenville yesterday. Sebring, a wealthy realty operator, and granddanghter of W. ^ H. Sebring, former mayor of Jackson- : yille and a Confederate general, is in < a local hospital today with a bullet s wound in her head, the result of an attempt to kill herself yesterdcy evening, at her home here. Miss Sebring has been brooding over the death of her mother several months ago and had become melancholic. Her parents had her at Atlantic Beach for two weeks past in hopes that the gay season there would distract her. She came home yesterday afternoon and between 5 and 6 o'clock, after talking for some time to a girl friend, retired to her room and fired a bullet into her head. The surgeons think she will die. Camden, July 10?Benjamin John his afternoon was convicted of murler with recommendation to mercy. John came to Camden several months jgo with a fellow Turk named Michael Simon, claiming to represent a Chris:ian college in Turkey, and solicited femds for it. The two left Camden, cvalking towards Logoff on the SeaDoard Air Line Bailway. When near he swamps of the Wateree river John hot his companion, put his body in a rnlvert and fled. He wa? captuied later on the train aear Bethune. A chain of evidence eras worked around him, which resulted in his conviction. Union, July 10.?This afternoon about 6:30 o'clock the passenger train of the Southern railway from Spar1-n.nhnrcr Hnlnmhia strnnk and kill * 3i Oscar Lancaster at a crossing about two blocks north of the depot bere. Lancaster was riding a motorcycle and on account of box cars on the sidetrack obscuring bis view he 3onld not see the approachine train, ft is probable that the noise Irom the motorcycle prevented his hearing the train. He was thrown 50 or 75 feet and died in a few minutes. Lancaster was married and was a son of the lnte T. B. Lancaster, former auditor of this county. He was a brother of M Otis Lancaster, who is connected with the Merchants' and Planters' Natijual bank of this city. ( A Good Investment. W. D. For sale by All Dealers. adv. Negro Slain by Mob. Blountstown, Fla., July 10?a >.< E;ro known as "Kid" Temper was taken from the jail here early this morning by a mob of citizens and lynched. The mob overpowered the | jailor and carried Tempers to the river bank, where he was strung up to a limb, his body later being riddled with bullets. The negro, it was alleged, assisted another negro who had killed a deputy sheriff of the neighborhood by giving him money and keeping him in hiding. The coroner's verdict today was "death caused at bands of unknown parties."
