Improvements Are Being i Made About Town. Mr Wilson has sold "Hotel Peak" to Messrs Epting & Hiller, who say '...v ar<> going to make this eating house second to none. You know our rf] t... in- d friend.andoid sshool-mate, M 3 Stuck, who has managed this hotel for lo, these many year9 and gave such satisfaction to her guests, will retire The J C Swygert store house, situated on Mulberry street, is now used as a boarding house and restaurant by "Em" Epting, who believes in good things to eat. His cook is Billy Johnson, who knows his business around a stove. Our dear old friend, O. B Counts, who is well known as the "shoe mender" and "musician" of our town, is - 1 3 ?1I 1 _ A. pomp to leave ub, ana win louate at New Bookland, S. C. We regret to give him up as he is a very useful man to this community. The Pau Shoal Co., situated about two miles north of Peak, is now working upward of 500 hands. They are building a dam across Broad river wnicb, when finished and a power house erected, will furnish 25,000 horse power, and our community will have an opportunity to have electric lights in our dwellings, lodges, storehouses, churches, barns, etc. This big construction makes the saw mills and trade of every kind flush, and the "beef man" is busy issuing out steaks, roasts, &c. Ann Gregory, who has been the faithful cook at the hotel managed by Mrs Stuck, was buried recently. Thus one of the old land marks has passed away. She was a good, honest woman anc held the respect of white and black. The gin here runs almost day and nipht and keep the cotton buyers busy. The health of our community is fairly good, \Tet there is more or less sickness now around about, and our efficient and good looking dcctor, Henry G., is kept busy filling prescriptions, etc The crops are good and our farmer friends are very busy gathering them.
