We regret to give him up as he is a very useful man to this community. The Pau Shoal Co., situated about two miles north of Peak, is now working upward of 500 hands. They are building a dam across Broad river wnicb, when finished and a power house erected, will furnish 25,000 horse power, and our community will have an opportunity to have electric lights in our dwellings, lodges, storehouses, churches, barns, etc. This big construction makes the saw mills and trade of every kind flush, and the "beef man" is busy issuing out steaks, roasts, &c. Ann Gregory, who has been the faithful cook at the hotel managed by Mrs Stuck, was buried recently. Thus one of the old land marks has passed away. She was a good, honest woman anc held the respect of white and black. The gin here runs almost day and nipht and keep the cotton buyers busy. The health of our community is fairly good, \Tet there is more or less sickness now around about, and our efficient and good looking dcctor, Henry G., is kept busy filling prescriptions, etc The crops are good and our farmer friends are very busy gathering them.
