Special to the State. I Newberry, October 26.?A party of Newberriana went down to Ohapin yesterday in antoa to talk with citizens there about the proposed addition of that portion of Lexington county to Newberry. In the party were Fred H Dominick, H L Parr, John M Kinard, Cannon G Ble^e, Eugene S Warts, W c o v.; fin minor r?f Nflwhftrrv u irmun/^, v u uuuiiuw, and DrC T Wyche, of Prosperity. Forty or fifty of the citizens met with the Newberry party in the school bmlding. Wm M Wilson, of Peak, was chairman of the meeting and Mr.. Frickwas secretary. The Newberry delegation assured the meeting that they would be delighted to welcome the people of Chapin into the connty and thought it wonld be a matter of mutual benefit if they should come in. The Chapin men had very little to say in the meeting. Charles P Robinson I made a short talk, in which he said that he had not thought much about the matter and had not made up his mind about it and did not know how he would vote were the proposition submitted. That appeared to express pretty correctly the feeling in Cnapin. Ou motion the chairman w.s authorized to appoint a committee of five to canvass tne situation and ascertain the feeling of the territory proposed ? - ?? * > i _ to be cut off into JNewoerry ana to ascertain as far as practicable the wishes of the people interested; this committee to be appointed at the leisure of the chairman and to mate report to a subsequent meeting. The committe will ascertain as far as it can what proportion of the people wish to remain with Lexington, what portion wish to become a part of Richland and what portion wish to come into Newberry. There has been talk sometime among the people of Peak and the people of the adjacent country of asking for an election on the question of voting that portion Lexington into Newberry, and the sentiment there is said to be strongly in favor of the change, the main question now being is how to run the line westward from Broad river towards Saluda. Another county scheme is interesting the people here. The people of Clinton are verv aggressive and earn- I 1 estiy pushing their scheme of the proposed new county of Musgrove, with Clinton as the capital. To get the necessary 400 square miles, they will have to cut pretty deep into New berry county. They have already made survey of a line from Enoree river to Saluda?a straight line about 30 miles long, cutting off a strip of Newberry about three miles wide, including in thi6 strip Whitmire, Kinards, Belfast. Dominiekst Garys, Longshore, Vaughanvill.e and so on. Under the State Constitution, not more the 94 square miles can be taken from Newberry as it, now ^{ands; "Tind the Oli^pikJg&Y; ^ ^ ***** ' ^ Declafe War on Colds.
