Former Lexlngfonlan Interviewed and Talks Interestingly oi His Associations and Knowledge ot Former Chief Justice. Several days ago Rev. S. T. Hallman, D. D., of Spartanburg, formerly of Lexington county, and one of the best known and most highly honored Lutheran ministers in the South, paid a high tribute to Judge Ira B. Jones. The tribute to the former chief justice was contained in conversation with a well known educator of Spartanburg. Rev. S. T. Hallman, D. D., has boen for over44 years one of the most highly honored and successful ministers in the Southern Lutheran church. He has occupied prominent pulpits in his denomination; has built and successfully financed the affairs of a number of important missions; was the publisher, by official request, of the Ladies' Missionary Journal of the United Synod in the South, and was more than 10 years the editor of the Lutheran Visitor, the leading paper of his denomination in the South. He has been a member of the board of trustees of Newberry college some 30 years, was its secretary 10 years, and has been the secretary of the United Lutheran Synod in the South now 10 years, which synod embraces eight scares in its orgamzauuu. Dr. Hallman was born and reared in the Black Creek section of Lexington eonnty, where many of his relatives | now reside. White of the Marine hospital service announced Monday night have been ordered there by Surgeon General Rupert Blue to aid tbe local forces in exterminating rats from the city. A large part of the more than 1,000 rats so far captured have been tested by the bacteriologists, but only one captured 10 days ago has been found'infected.
