The following rules will govern the Men's Corn Growers' contest for Lexington County for the year 1912: 1. Each contestant must notify the secretary, J. A. Barre, Lexington, S. C., of the association of liis intention to enter not later than May 1st. 2. Land must be measured by a competent surveyor, whose certificate must accompany the report. 3. Land will be divided into two classes?hill land and bottom land. A committee of three disinterested citizens who are acceptable to the colaberator in his territory, shall pass on the class of land and measure the corn, seeing it gathered and weighed, the usual standard being observed, 70 pounds shucked or 56 pounds shelled; corn not to be gathered until thorouglily dry. 5. Ten ears of corn grown on acre must be exhibited at Lexington County corn growers' contest. 6. Yield shall count 33 1-3 per cent. Expense, 16 2-3 per cent. Best ten ears, 20 Der cent. Best record and history, 30 per cent. 7. Description of preparation and cultivation, including record of all fertilizers used, of all prize winners, must be published by the association m some of the county papers. Boys' contest?Rules same as men's, except they must do ail the cultivating. They may have help in the preparation of land. Prizes. Washington, April 12.?Miss Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross society, died at her home in Gien Echo, Md., at 0 o'clock this morning. The cause of her death was brother, brother, Stephen Barton, of Boston, was stricken about a year ago. Her brother, Stephen Barton, of Boston, was with her when she died.
