Mistrial in Label Case.
After remaining in the room for
nearly 36 hours, the jury who heard
the case of the State against W. 0.
Tatum, L. W. Boykin and John Bell
Towill, former dispensary officials
charged with conspiracy to defraud
the State out of several thousand dollars
in ihe purchase of a big lot of labels'during
1905, failed to reach a Terdict
and a mistrial was ordered.
This means that another long and
tedious trial will be he,d. It 19 said
that the jar/stood nine for acquittal
and three for conviction. The case
was heard in Richland county and distinguished
counsel appeared on both
sides.
The defendants are still under heavy
bonds, the same charges being against
them. ,
Death and Destruction
[ in Pennsylvania Flood.
Tfie immense dam of the Bayless
Pulp and Paper company, near Austin,
Pennsylvania, broke on Saturday
afternoon and 500,000,000 gallons of
water swept down the valley, destroying
the town of 3,200 inhabitants and
causing damages to the amount of
1 $6,000,000. Most of the people got
warning of the approaching flood in
time to escape, but the number of
missing is estimated at many score.

of Medical Society.!
Tftp regular meeting of the Lexing- i
ton County Medical Society was held !
on Monday. The meeting wa9 largely
attended, many visitors from neighboring
societies being present.
The following papers were read:
"Our Relation to Ourselves and to
Others," Dr. P. N. Connor, of Saluda
county; "Innuminization ar d Therapy
With Typhoid Vaccine," Dr. Wei. R.
Barren, Co umbia; "A Plea for Early
Diagnosi of Appendicitis," Dr. S. E.
Harman, Columb .. The papers were
of a high character and of peculiar interest
to the medical Drofessfnn.
The following officers were elected
for the next y r: President, Dr. G.
iFrank Roberts, Lexington; vice-president,
Dr. James P. Drafts, Barr;
secretary and treasurer, Dr. James J.
Wingard, Lexington.
It is a significant fact that Dr.
Wingard has held this position continuously
since the organization of the
socie sy in 1904.
Following the morning session the
annual dinner was served in Masonic
Hall by Mr. Eli L. Corlev in a most
excellent and satisfactory manner.
The next meeting of the society will
be held on the first Monday in January,
1912.
Death of Infant.
The two-year-old son of Mr. and
Mrs. Rafus Kaon of the Mtf. Pleasant
section, died last night after an illness '
of three days. The burial will take
place at Mo. Pleasant church this afternoo
