Carten, a white mar, got his left hand caught in the machinery, receiving injuries to the extent that amputation was necessary. The operation was performed by Dr. E. P. Derrick and Mr. Carten is doing i as well as could be expected. Collecting Cotton Claims. W. Fowad Dead In Field. T. K. Starling, a white man, aged 56 years, a resident of Saxe-Gotha miii village, was found dead in the held of Mr. John Baily by two men who were passing along the road at 11 o'clock Monday morning. Coroner Clarke was notified and went to the scene at once. An examination bv Dr. G. .frank Roberts revealed the fact that death was due to natural causes. Mr. Starling was standing on a log cutting off wood blocks, when lie ^as suddenly stricken by death, falling forward on his face. The deceased is surviyed by no immediate family connections, his wife having died about two years ago. Mayor Root cn Streets. Everybody is glad to see the benign countenance of Mayor Sam P, Root on our streets again. For several weeks he has been confined to his room by illness. Miller has in deeci been a busy man during tne past few weeks.
