Messsrs Editors:?It has been many moons since this scribe, as Georgia correspondent, contributed his last effasion to the Lexington Dispatch. I am glad to know yon have made a success of your paper, and that the good people of Lexington are so nobly backing you, as you so richly deserve. I find much pleasure in perusing your columns as well as some sadness in finding chronicled there the departure of many of my old friends and former acqnantances. But why should we be sad ? It's a ebt we all must pay, sooner or later, and we too will soou j strike hande with our friends who ( have "gone before." Our old soldier comrades are pass- J ing over very fast, I noticed in a recent issue of the Dispatch that my old comrade, Henry Kleckley, had passed over; and you said he was seventythree years old and a member of Capt. W. D. M. Harman's company. My memory is not as good as it was in my younger days (have past my 76 mile post) but I remember distinctly that comrade Henry Kleckley, and if I remember right, his brother Thomas Kleckley, also at one time belonged to bhe sa^e company with myself, Capt. A. H. Caugbman's company F., 5th S. D. Calvery. Possibly they may have transferred from Capt. Harman's to jur company. I will relate some occurences that I think will convince rou that I am right. Comrade Kleckey and myself were the only two a en detailed to guard McKay's Point >n the night the enemy landed th^re, md we engaged them, firing the first hots in the second battle of Pocataigo. The same night Lieut. A. O. 3anks, Corporal Jeff. Leapheart and Tokens Kyzer, ali of our company, vere captured ou a picket post on the pposite side of Pocataligo river. The >oys were not exchanged, if I remem>er right, until after our command veDt to Virginia. I would be so glad o meetf and greet our old comrades, cost especially those of my oid com>any, once more, before the final roll sail. The people of Lexington occupy a ;reen spot ia my memory and a warm ilace in my heart. It was her that ;ave me, one among her fairest and loblest daughters for a life compan[>n, and our dear Lord has been so :ood and merciful as to spare us to a ;ood long and happy journey together ven permitting us to celebrate our ;olden wedding,, on the 16th of the >ast February. Yes, He has abundantly blessed us, and we hope and rust He has and will csntinue to 1 tless all of our dear friends everywhere. A line from any of yon at any time will be highly appreciated. ' .. G.
