The only ease disposed of in the common pleas court since going to press last week was the case of John W.Ross, of Columbia, against the' Southern Railway Company, a damage suit for ?25,000 for personal injuries alleged to have been received by the plaintiff while in the employ of the company a * car repairer in the city of Columbia on Sept. 1, 1907. This makes the third time the case has been before a Lexington jury, and consumed four days. The jury found a verdict for the plaintiff in tiie sum of ?12.000. Ross was represented, by Messrs. E. J. Court will reconvene on next Monday. The Lutheran Synod. The S5th annual convention of the Evang hical Lutheran Synod of South Carolina was held in St. Stephen's church, this place, last week. The meeting was one of the largest attended in recent years and Lexington did herself proud in the entertainment o' the visitors. Excellent music was urnished by the church choir throughout the session. The Rev. C. A Freed, D. D., of Columbia, presided with becoming grace and dignity. At the election for officers held on Wt dnesdty Dr. Freed was reelected president; the Rev. Jas. D. K nard, or Cameron, vice-president; the Rev. S. P. Koon, of Prosperity, reelected secretary, and the Kcv. T. B. Epting, of Walhalla, reelec ed statistical secretary. 9$ Many matters of importance were disposed of during the session. The next meeting of the synod will be held with St. Andrews church, Charleston, beginning on Wednesday following the second Sunday in November, 1910. The thanks of synod were extended the people of Lexington for the kind and generous hospitality exte idcd. On Sunday morning the Rr,-. William Hoppe, pastor of St. J manne's church, Charleston, preae inu a large and appreciative co lgregation in St. Stephen's, and in th? evening the Rev. S. C.
