Many farmers think diversification neans trucking. Such farmers 'have i wrong conception of it. Well, what j toes it mean? It means this kind of arming: 1. Make ample provision to plant >lenty of wheat. In all parts of the louth where it can be grown snccessully and profitably we should supply 11 home needs and have a few barrels -f flon r to sell. 2. Sow oats to 9npply home mar:ets for seed and feed. 3. It has been demonstrated reently that in all portions of the Sonth n our uplands that there has been jown from 50 to 100 bushels of corn 0 the acre. Make corn. 4. It has also been demonstrated hat in any section of the South pork an be raised cheaper than in the Western States. , 5. We can also raise horses and 2ules as cheap here. 6. Dairying can be made as profitble here in the South as in any ountry. The above system I call -diversified J griculture, which means success for be Southern farmer. | -B. We are frequently asked regarding 01 he relative feeding and fertilizing e< alues of the common legumes grown a] a this section. 'Which of these legumes is the best litrogen-gatherer or soil-impoyer?" ve have generally stated that for prac- ? ical purposes the nitrogen gathered ^ eight be compared on a basis of the mount of growth, or hay produced; md therefore, in determining whifceh j. ihould be used, the suitability of the oil for producing them, the season of he year to which they are adapted, g md the manner they fit in with the )a9is of selection. While the above statements are in a t jroad sense true, it may be well for E he benefit of those desiring more defi- n aite information to compute the value e nf the nitrogen in a ton of each of the r common legume hays. A. Adams, thus finally disposing of ae of the remarkable criminal recrds of Colleton county. Adams kill1 Henry Jacques about five years go, and after considerable trouble as caught and tried for murder. He as under death sentence, when he 3caped from jail, and a reward of 1,000 was offered by Governor Heyrard for the man, dead or alive. It as believed at the time that some of re county officials knew of the 'hereabouts of Adams, but word was nally sent in by the defendant that e would surrender. This promise he ept, and was landed in the county lil. Motions for new trials were relsed, but the State board of pardons ecommended his commutation to a fe sentence in the penitentiary, rhich wa9 agreed upon by the Govrnor. Since then he has been in the tate Penitentiary, and the action of tie supreme court in refusing to repen the case means the end of Adms for the remainder of his natural fe.
