Here i9 the most approved method of treating seed potatoes to prevent a scabby crop: Soak the whole seed for two hours in a mixture of one-half pint of formalin (often called formaldehyde) and fifteen gallons of cold water; dry the seed, cut, and plant in ground that has not recently grown potatoes. Bad roads and scrubby stock go together. The farmers who set out to have better stock set out at the same time to have better roads, better crops, and more improvements and conveniences on the farm. And in a neighhood where there are good roads, improved stock and farms, we find a development of intellect and a fuller, better appreciation of life. Tarring corn : In coating seed-corn with coal-tar as a protection against crows and blackbirds, put the grain into a pail and pour on enough warm warm water to cover it. A cause in court without a parallel in the history of this county and with few if any like it iu the history of the courts of the State, will be heard at the ensuing term of court, Judge J. C. Klugh, presiding. Mrs. J. P. Farmer is euing the slayer of her husband for $25,000 damages. On the 22nd of February last year, Mrs. Farmer was made a widow by the bullet of VV. II. Sellers. Farmer was a dispensary constable searching the house in which Sellers was living. The constable was shot down as he | was breaking open the door of the nouse. ne naa exniotrea a searcn warrant through a window, but Sellers would not let him come in without condition. Mrs. Farmer is now bringing suit for $25,000. There is one similar case in the annals of the courts of this State. In January, 1S96, Jas. F. Williams of Georgia, was killed at Blacksburg, S. C., and subsequently M. R. Reese and D. F. Luckie were convicted of murder. They escaped from jail and, unless dead, arc even now fugitives from justice. Mrs. Williams brought suit against the estate of M. R. Reese, and the records of the supreme court do not show that the case ever came up to this court, hut a Columbia attorney stated yesterday that Mrs. Williams got some kind of a settlement from the estate of her husband's slayer.
