Young L dy Causes Negro Intruder to Jump from Her Window. A few nights ago there was an attempt-at robbery at Converse College, Soartanburg. The burglar entered the room of Miss Eeid, left his hat in the scrap he had with that little athletic young woman, who is a member of the basket bail team, and when she grappled with him she managed to get a finger of one of his hands in her mouth and gave the member a furious bite, causing the burglar to wince with pain. When he got into Miss Reid's room she was awakened by him ransacking through her bureau. She then called out for help. The burglar threw his nana over ner mouth and tried to stifle her, at the same time telling her to keep quiet if she valued her life. She scr?amed ana the finger of the burglar got into the mouth of the young lady and she closed on the member with all her might. The burglar screamed, so did Miss Reid, and the whole college was alarmed. Mrs. H. J. Howard, the dean of the college, knew that something was wrong, and, poking her head out of her window, gave several toots of her whistle. The toot awakened the night watchman, but he arrived toa late, for the burglar had lenped out of a seeond-story window to the ground. He left his shoe treck, a narrow No. 7. ? ? ?
