Walter Perry Dead.
Wal ter Perry, a colored youth about
seventeen years old, died in Columbia
Saturday morning of typhoid fever
and the remains were brought to
iLexington on Sunday and interred in
the Bethel cemetery.
Walter Perry was popular, not only
1 ' among his own race, but among the
whites as well.

Grand Jury Committee.
Messrs. John Bell Towill and L.
Bennett Frick, members of the grand
1 jury, with Barrett Jone9, Esq., as expert,
examined the county offices,
poor house and jail last week. So far
as is known they found everything in
the best of shape.

The Rev. W. H. Roof, of Arcadia,
Tenn., is visiting relatives and friends
near Gilbert, and will preach the 4th
Sunday morning at St. Paul's, (Hollow
Creek, )< and at Cedar Grove in
the afternoon of the same day at 3:30
o'clock. These congregations were
t served by him for a number of years
and his many friends will be glad to
see and hear him again.
Lever Invited to Greensboro.
Congressman Lever has received an
imitation from Gov. R. B. Glenn, of
North Carolina, to be present at the
Good Roads' Congress to be held at
Greensboro, N. C., on the 13th of
October. The Congressman cannot
attend beeause he is to deliver the
principal address at the Anderson
County Fair on farmers' day, the 14th

Has Resigned.
The Rev. W. H. Hilier, who has
been the beloved pastor of St. Stephen's
Lutheran church for a little more
than a year, has resigned, theresigna!
tion to take effect upon the convening
I of Synod next month. The resigna|
tion was reluctantly accepted on Sun
I aay morning- last.
The Rev. Mr. Hiller is one of the
! strongest preachers in the Lutheran
| Synod, and it is generally regretted
that he has been called to another
j field. He will move, with his familj7,
1 to Columbia, where he will continue
to do ministerial work.
