He says the crops around Batesburg and Leesyille were never better. Mr. John Dooley, one of our industrious farmers called in to see us last Thursday and paid his subscription. The Misses Riley, two exceedingly handsome and charming young ladies of Columbia, spent Saturday and Sunday with their uncle, Mr. R. L. Keisler, at Gilbert. Col. D. J. Griffith, of whom all Lexington county loves and honors, went down to his plantations near Gilbert, last Saturday. He says that his crops are good, and the crops on che State farms under his supervision, were never better. This is saying much, for the Colonel always has fine crops. He has the best of everything, every day in the year, so think of him when you need something for the table. ; The Lexington Brass Band has been serenading on onr streets this week. The "boys" are indeed making rapid progress, and will soon be among the best. Messrs Arthur and Major Harman are the leaders and instructors. Mrs. John E. Black of this place who underwent a successful operation at the Columbia hospital a few weeks ago is home again to the delight ol her many friends and still improving under the skillful treatment of Dr, L.
