P. Roof returned on Saturday from a business trip in the North. Crops in this county are about three week9 later this year than last. Mrs. W. H. Hiller and children are spending some time with relatives in North Carolina. Mrs.Dr. E. P. Derrick and little son, Homer, have been on 1i visit to relatives in Columbia. Peaches are plentiful on this market and are selling at reasonable prices. Miss Lizzie Harman is spending a few days in Columbia with friends and relatives. Douglass, of New Brookland, a popular employer of the Columbia Electric Railway and Power company, was here last Thursday. Mr. Lowe ha9 charge of the Brookland Bureau of tne Columbia Record and is a fine gentleman. There will be an educational rally at Chapin next Saturday, the 30th. Several good speakers will be on hand and a great time is expected. The editor acknowledges with pleasure the receipt of an invitation from Mr. Chalmers E. Wessinger to attend the commencement exercises of the University of South Carolina, June 7th to 10th. A. D. Martin, Esq., is announced in this issue as a candidate for County Superintendent of Education. Little Miss Mary Susan Roof, the popular young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Roof, has been quite ill for the past few days, much to the regret of her many friends. Miss Annie Painter, a very efficient trained nurse from Columbia, is in attendance. Dr. P. H.
