A. Derrick, a popular and substantial citizen of Hollow Creek, was here yesterday and, as usual, paid hl^ subscription. Mrs. Geo. S. Drafts returned yesterday from a delightful visit to her son, Dr. Andrew Drafts, at Hendersonville, N. C. Rev. W. D. Quick will preach at the poor house next Sunday afternoon at 4.30 o'clock. Public cordially invited. Mr. E. Jones, a prominent merchant of Batesburg and a fine clever gentleman, is attending court as a petit juror. Mrs. T. P. Meetze and little daughter, Sarah, and Master Drafts Boozer, are sojourning at Hendersonville, N. c. Solicitor P. D. Hilderbrand, of Orangeburg, was here yesterday on matters of legal business. Mr. Alfred J. Fox left today for Jamestown and other places in the north. He will be away about two weeks. Mr. S. J. Wiggers, one of the most substantial farmers in Saluda township sent his renewal by a neighbor, Monday. Prof. Samuel J. Derrick, of Swan\ sea, was here Monday and gave the Dispatch a pleasant and profitable call. Mr. H. D. Stabler, - of Swansea, could not attend court, but kindly sent his subscription by a friend, for which he has our sincere thanks. It was our pleasure to meet Mr Edwin Timmerman, a large farmer of Plains, Ga., and a nephew of Dr. W. H. Timmerman, of Batesburg, Monday. He was accompanied by the "Old Doctor," whom it is always a pleasure to meet. The Ladies' Aid Society of Mt. Vernon church will give an ice cream supper at the home of Mrs. J. Ed Shealy at White Rock, on Saturday evening, August 17th, at 7 o'clock. Public cordially invited. Mr. P. C. Price, a popular shoe and clothing merchant of Columbia, is attending court. He has many friends in Lexington and throughout the county who are always delighted to | see him. Miss Lessie Gibbs, one of the popular salesladies at W. P. Roof's, is taking her much needed vacation. Sbe spent last week with friends in Newberry; this week she is at Johnston. May she have a pleasant sojourn. Dr. Theodore Quattlebaum, a prominent physician and surgeon of Batesburg was here Monday. Dr. Quattlebaum is one of the strongest and most enthusiastic prohibitionists in the county, and a high toned Christian gentleman. Mr. W. B. Altman, one of the finest mechanics in the State, a member of the grand jury and a resident of Batesburg, where he has one of the finest shops in the country, called in to see us this week. Mrs. Sam Swygert has moved from Peak to Lexington so that she may better educate her children in the school here. She occupies the Dr. Hendrix cottage on lower Main street. We welcome Mrs. Swygert and her very estimable family to our town. Mr. James R. Bouknight, vice president of the Matthews-Bouknight Co., of Leesville. one of the largest mer cantile firms in the county, was here yesterday.
