Supposing you live c forty years only after you commence ^ this course of medicine, you have made 14,600 beings happy atall events for a time." A child may be troublesome in many j ways without deserving punishment. We must always bear in mind the t good of the child, and our form of ^ government must not be neglectful of the child's true interest in our great efforts to make his behavior conform r to our moods and the requirements of society. We punish severely when the child throws a ball and breaks a window, or turns over a chair, or spills his milk; but we pass over the malice, revenge or cupidity that we * find creeping out now and then. Small, playful errors are committed 8 sometimes under the influence of a youthful spirits,^ with no bad inten- v tion whatever on the part of the child. C f Over Husband's Dead Body c Held Sheriff at Bay. u C New Orleans, April 4.?Armed with 0 a rifle and standing guard over her v dead husband's body, Mrs. L. C. Drew t, held a sheriff and four deputies at bay c for over 20 hours yesterday at Water j. Valley, La., according to dispatches received here tonight. It is charged ? that Mrs. Drew shot her husband. When the sheriff's posse arrived to y arrest the woman she opened fire, shooting whenever one of the officers 3 showed himself. She was not captured until her ammunition was exhausted.' No cause for the shooting of her husband is known. ? h Bride and Groom Die in Fire. j Sutton, W. Va., April 4.?Dr. and c< Mrs. Lloyd Gare, were burned to tl death, and John Martin, of Fairmont, ~ W. Va., narrowly escaped a similar $ death tonight, when the Riverview e hotel was destroyed by fire, causing a ^ monetary loss of $18,000. Sl Dr. and Mrs. Gare were married t] yesterday in Moundsville, W. Va., tl and were enroute to the home of the !jj groom's mother, Mrs. Mary Gare, where a -wedding supper awaited their coming. Mrs. Gare was Miss Elizabeth Wingrove, of Moundsville. Dr. Gare was 28 years ef age, had just t finished his medical education. A Cured of Rheumatism. n Mr. Wm.
