Wednesday, February 13, 1907. From Cherokee. To the Editor of The Dispatch: Being a juror for second week I visited your sanctum in your absence and, findinig my subscription had ex.pired, I left a cart wheel to keep you from chasing me for the mighty dollar for the next 12 months. I met many of my friends and kinsfolk. Cousin T. seems lively as when we used to go together over thirty years ago. He said: "After they sell the stock at the crushed price sale they ought to. have a girl sale." Cousin T. after enjoying the hospitality and teasing the boys and girl3 of Lexington for a week, the sun, moon and stars seemed to have rolled back on his dial about fifteen years. He stayed in town long enough to give some people the town switch, but I do not know if he caught the contagion. If he did, it is good bye, John?to the country. He will have to move a town to him, or move to town. Cherokee School is flourishing under the management of Miss Kizzie George. It may be vital in the case of a child. Proper food, good ventilation, and dry, warm clothing are the proper safeguards against colds, If they are maintained through the changeable weather of autumn, winter and spring, the chances of a surprise from ordinary colds will be slight. Washington, February (h^-Chairman Jenkins of the House committee on judiciary, today submitted a report* expressing the emphatic opinion of the committee that "Congress has no jurisdiction of authority over the subject of woman or child labor, nor authority to suppress abuse or to amelorate abuses thereof." Believing the "National Government too weak to undertake to exercise police power over the states," therefore, the committee concludes that the regulation of woman and child labor should be allowed to rest with the individual States.
