The mule was in Mr. Smith's stable and just how the accident occurred is a mystery. It is ; a heavy loss to Mr. Bachman, as the mule was a fine one, and valued highly by its owner. ! '.v ; r " v . ' ." ' W. Press Summer Dead. Mr. W. Press Summer, for a long time one of Peak's most successful merchants, but later an employee of W. T. Martin, Columbia, died at the home of Mr. B. J. G. Lever, in the Fork, on Thursday last. He had been a great sufferer from asthma and his death, while a shock to his friends, was not unexpected. Mr. Summer was a pleasant and ] popular gentleman, but like all of us, had to enter into that bourne from whence no traveler ever returns, and j where he will rest in peace. Rev. Leslie Pounded. On last Thursday night Rev. A. S. | Leslie was greatly , surprised ' at the pounding given him by the members of his church and the people of Lexington generally. Groceries were in abundance, and the reception ten- | dered the callers by Rev. Leslie and family was greatly enjoyed. This is the second year that this beloved Man of God has been in Lexington and, b^ his Christian bearing and devotion to duty, has won the love, esteem and confidence of all the people in Lexington, and the pounding given him on Thursday evening was only a slight token of the high appreciation of his services. * To. Shot by Spa. Last Thursday night B. W. Washington, a negro living near Styx, this county, was shot by his son. The negro was shot in the shoulder and ? -A race.
