Sromo Seltzer Sing Invests in
Georgetown Land.
Georgetown, Jan. 3.?The famous
plantations of 44Prospect Hill" and
*Oak Hill," on the Waccamaw river,
Bear Georgetown, have within the
past few days been purchased by Mr^

wealthy as the result of its tremendous
popularity. Mr. Emerson is not
a "Yankee" though he now lives in
the North, but a "Southerner" to the
ore, a North Carolinian by birth and
instinct.
Mr. Emerson is here now with a
force of workmen, who have commenced
the work of clearing away
the debris and preparing for the rehabilitation
of Irospect Hill. The
two plantations embrace an area of
some 4,500 acres. A generous proportion
of this large tract is forest
land and this will be converted into a
splendid game preserve. The cleared
lands will be cultivated and these also
will be fine hunting lands in the fall
for pheasants and quail and other
game birds, with which the property
will be stocked. The rice fields will
be reclaimed and planted in rice.

Escp Big I Back.
Recently a friend listened to a public
speaker who had many things to
jay and some of them were interesting
and instructive, but the personalit}''
of the speaker, the "Big F' was
sandwiched in the disccurse. Self
abnegation, self renunciation, or forjecting
self or whatever you call it, is
m admirable virtue, especially in the
sase of public speakers. Even a good
md wise discourse is much weakened
yhen the B^cakor overshadows the
>ubject, and a poof Speech or lecture
s execrable when the Big I is twice
is large as any idea advanced. This
lint is for you, my dear stump-orator,
lolitical wind bag, "powerful'*
ireacher, or any one who assays to
-each, amuse, or instruct, form any
ort of platform. The Sunday School
Dimes wisely says:
"Self-remembrance is a sure poison,
it stunts our growth, and blocks our
urogress, and destroys our usefulness.
Ind to be always thinking about ourelves
is the surest way to help othsrs
to forget us. Some one has gone

For when a man cares more
ibout every one else in the world
han about himself, the world is not
joing to forget him. That is one reaon
why the name of Christ grows
greater with every passing year. It
s the Christ-way; and this recipe for
mmortality is only another way of
aying that men may find life by lostig
it."?Ex.
