The subscription price of the Dispatch is |f a year; 50 cents fcr six months; 25 cents for throe months?invariably cash in advance. Circulation, 2,298. jj- Wednesday, December 19,1906. r??* ? That was a most creditable sheet that the Colombia Evening JKecora got out on last Friday. It goe9 on to show how an evening paper is appreciated in a city like Colombia. But few cities in.the Sooth can boa9t of two daily papers that comes op to the standard of modern journalism as can Colombia, the capital of the proud Palmetto State. " v Wherever the Public Service CorH poration of Sooth Carolina has held ' meetings, they have met with the United support of all citizens. Lex? ington will do her part. Her citizens ' are cognizent of the fact that all these enterprises mean more business for Lexington, and when the time comes for her to "ante up" she will not be found wanting. J The Salvation Army in Columbia j is doing a noble work. Under the . leadership of Capt. Brown they are >' going to giye a dinner to five hundred sjjSr of the poor of that city on Christmas day.? In this way a number of people, & that would not otherwise enjoy the p pleasures of this occasion of all occasions, will know at least that Christie mas is here. The Christmas number of "The I- State" appeared on Sunday la9t. It ^ contains sixty-four pages and is one the neatest and most attractive :y issues ever gotten out in this State. The .mechanism is especially beautil fnl and shows the. work of skilled ; hands. * All in all, taking the reading ^/matter as well as the ads?it is a credit p to South Carolina journalism and we ;; congratulate the management, on fe; this, the best edition ever published on the press of "The State." That Christmas is near at hand is pk evidenced in all the stores in Lexington, each having a magnificent display r of Christmas goods. Never before '< have we seen such a fine collection of * ; goods for the holiday trade. There L is no town in South Carolina that you I can buy cheaper than in Lexington, and we want to impress upon our I: readers the fact that our merchants I are ever ready to serve you, and esI pecially at this time. We extend to I., one and all a most cordial invitation E to visit our office while here. "V^e f want to see and shake the hand of all |y our friends, and assure you that we If will put forth our best efforts to make I your stay in Lexington both pleasant R: and profitable. E Mr. E. B. Pilcher, the popular repI resentatsve of the Columbia-Aiken I and Augusta electric railway compaI ny, is in town in the interest of his I line. He surprises us with the stateifementthat he is having some difficulty ? ?-?^* Vila R- in securing: tne nguu ui w aj iui XllO j I line between this place and ColumI bia. These people are standing in Etheir own light. They do not realize B the many advantages that this road will be to them; they do not seem to I take into consideration the fact that I it will enhance the value of their property, besides it will be of great I convenience to them in hauling their truck to Columbia and in many ways it will be of great benefit to them. I Just think of a car running by your door every hour in the day to and from your capitol city! We trust B that these people?instead of putting obstacles in the way?will consider B this matter well and help to get the B road built. Now is the time, don't Wait! I Mr. W. W. Wells, representative of the South Carolina Public Service Corporation, was here Friday. This is Mr. Wells second visit to Lexing tonandhehas already made many friends. Harwas getting the amount of business done at this place and other matters pertaining to the new enterprise. After the holidays we propose to make the Dispatch second to no county paper in the State. Adver tisiDg has crowded our space and we r.hpn endeavor to please both our advertising patrons and readers. Our correspondents too v.ill please be pa tient and send in short newsy items.
