The Lexington Dispa ch. i - i i ? G. M. Harm an, Editor and Publisher. Entered at the Post Office at Lexington, * S. C., as second class matter. The subscription price of the Dispatch is $1 a year; 50 cents for six months; 25 cents for three months?invariably cash in advance. Circulation, 2,258* Wednesday, November 14,1906. - Morning after morning The State tells the people of the State and the country what a monstrous man is ^ Senator Tillman. It is now quarelling with the Georgian, of Atlanta, because forsooth that paper sees something in Tillman to admire. We would not lecture The State, hot we wish to , rise to ask unanimous consent that we be given a rest. We are tired of TQ1Igj man editorials. There are more important subjects that might engage the attention of The State's editor. Tillman is to be our Senator for six -*? -TT? AIWaiI Kir tifiA HIUap* JOM WW MJ ?|v overwhelming vote of the people of the:State. His great ability no one doubts, not even The State, and it ia beyond dispute that he is one of . the foremost Democrats in the nation, with an influence in the Senate, second to no man frbm the South, fe That he represents the hopes and aspirations of his people, that his serV,. vices to this State has been great, ^^that he is alert to the interest of all, and watchful that this section of the country be given a fair deal, even The State, is sometimes,* sufficiently fair to concede. True, he is not without faults, nor free from errors of judgment. Where is the man, who is without them? We are all weak creatures, always stumbling, sometimes falling, full of sin, K and in constant danger of erring; but ? we do not believe that Senator Tillt; won Koa ar\xr TTintlOTlolv TTDOll the SlUS !! and short comings of South Carolina. We suspect that there are those who do not -see things as does The State, who do not look through the same political eye-glasSes, nor drink from the same Spring of information, nor are we inspired with the same motive to crush this man Tillman. That they are not *thus endowed with the same view of things as is The State, maybe is their fault, and it is in the range of possibility that it is the fault of The State. , We believe there is no man in public life more conscientiously devoted to the service of the people than is this same'man Tillman whom The State delights to advertise to the world as a thief and a man unfit to represent a a "great State in the Senate. We will not debate tha t point?we only wanted to rise to confess to our weariness at this everlasting nagging at ,one of the chosen representatives of the people, and to beg our esteemed confcem* " ' * -A- -2 A. - 1 porary to give us a rest, just a untx, little rest.
