Lever leaves this evening for Columbia, where he will deliver a lecture to the Junior Order of United American Mechanics at Granby Hall tonight. This will be one of the largest gatherings of the year for Columbia. Mr. Lever is one of the most popular men in the State with the laboring people, and his record justly entitles him to the love they give him. From this meeting Mr. Lever will go to his father's who was so badly injured a few weeks ago, to assist him in his farm work. The change will give him a much deserved recreation. Back in Harness. President Roosevelt and family have returned to the white house from their vacation at Oyster Bay. The president is reported to be the picture of health, and the country may prepare to "get busy." ORDINANCES. Be it ordained by the Town Council of the Town of Lexington, S. C., in Council assembled, and by the authority of the same: That from and after the ratification of this ordinance, all persons wandering from place to place, without any known residence in any city, town or county, and having no visible or known means of gaining a fair, honest and reputable livelihood; also, all persons who lead idle or. disorderly lives; likewise all persons not following some handicraft, trade or profession, and not having some known or visible means of livelihood, who shall be able to work, being within the corporate limits of the town of Lexington, and also, all sturdy beggars within the said Town, are, and shall be, deemed vagrants, uuu upuu wuyi^wuii thereof shall be fined in a sum not exceeding fifty dollars or thirty days imprisonment. Be it ordained by the To^R> Council of the Town of Lexington, S. O., and by the authority of the same, in Council assembled: That from and after the ratification of this ordinance any person failing to perform the labor required of liim on the streets of the Town of Lexington by ordinance "H" of said Town relating to Street Duty, who has not paid his commutation tax in lieu of such work after being notified so to do, as allowed by Section 2 of said Ordinance, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction for the violation of said ordinance of said Town shall be fined not more than fifty dollars or be imprisoned not more than thirty days. Be it ordained by the Town Council of the Town of Lexington, in Council assembled, and by the authority of the same: That from and after the ratification of this ordinance, it shall be unlawful for any person or persons, firm or corporation to do or conduct a pressing club business, or press clothes for pay, within the corporate limits of the Town of Lexington, S. C., without first paying to the Treasurer of said Town the sum of 50 cents per week, $1.00 per month or $2.00 per year and obtain from him a license so to do. That any violation of this ordinance 8 hall be punished by a fine of not more than one hundred dollars or by imprisonment for not more than thirty days. Done and ratified this 14th day of May, A.
